Cordelia

What do you think?

It is DP's favourite name, and I'm coming around. It's a bit 'out there' for my usual tastes, but I guess it isn't too out there, is it? it reminds us of buffy too

I absolutely love the name Cora too, and would possibly use it as a nickname but not all the time (if I intended to and DP liked it too, I would just use it as I know it is a name). Do you think Cora could work as a casual nickname for Cordelia?

I really like the name and definitely think it's usable. I immediately think of Shakespeare and Anne of Green Gables. I'm not a fan of Cora, though it certainly works as a short form. I prefer Cory or Cordy.

17caterpillars1mouse · 07/02/2019 03:18

It was on our shortlist for DD2. We were considering Corey or Cordy as a nn

VinnythePanda · 07/02/2019 01:35

It’s my absolute favourite. Beautiful name!

Marcipex · 06/02/2019 18:05

And there are some adorable soft toys called Cordyroys.

ChimpyChops · 06/02/2019 18:05

I like it. I know one who is 6. Lovely name.

Marcipex · 06/02/2019 18:03

Cordelia is lovely, so is Delia.

stellarfox · 06/02/2019 17:59

I really like Cordelia and I’d use Cora or Delia as nicknames

grasspigeons · 06/02/2019 16:48

I love it. think its a fab name

starkid · 06/02/2019 16:44

Sorry I'm not a fan, although I usually like those style of names that one in particular makes me think of bullies/spoilt kids, or rich cantankerous old ladies. No idea why, as I don't think I've ever met a Cordelia!

GinaCarbonara · 06/02/2019 14:04

I know the loveliest Cordelia. She gets her full name most of the time but sometimes Delie or Cordy.

Daffodil2018 · 06/02/2019 13:52

I love it. It is the other name we were considering for our LO. We went with something shorter in the end due to a long surname!

MikeUniformMike · 06/02/2019 13:49

Cordy. It's lovely and just slightly unusual.

pallisers · 06/02/2019 13:36

I love it. DD has a (fab) friend called Cordiana which I also love.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 06/02/2019 13:35

I know one with nn Cory. Love it!

VenusClapTrap · 06/02/2019 13:33

I don’t like it. It manages to be both frilly and clunky to my ears.

ThanosSavedMe · 06/02/2019 11:35

Love it. Am binge watching Buffy right forgot what a great character Cordelia is

Butterfly84 · 06/02/2019 11:33

It's a bit witchy but I like that. It is a really nice name and different from the ultra popular names.

Cosmoa · 06/02/2019 11:32

I came on to say it reminds me of Anne of Green Gables too 😍

I don't really like the name but I do love that book/film series ❤️

ChubsyMcChubFace · 06/02/2019 10:58

Love Cora! And it’s nice to have a longer name option too. Cordelia isn’t my favourite, but it’s nice.

I’d go for it!

MumUnderTheMoon · 06/02/2019 10:29

Cora would work but I'm a big buddy the vampire slayer fan so any Cordelia would always be Cordy to me.

Wimblemum1 · 06/02/2019 09:25

King Lear for me too... it’s such a sad story “my poor fool is hanged” - I don’t think I could and it would jump into my mind meeting someone with that name... but better than Ophelia I suppose!

ncforbabynames · 06/02/2019 07:17

My mind goes straight to Buffy too... clearly not cultured enough for the Atwood/Shakespeare reference BlushGrin

I would intend to use Cordelia most of the time, as would DP, but I know myself and I will shorten it to Cora (I am terrible for giving people nicknames without realising it). My sister's name is Francesca; I've called her Franca for a long time (everyone else calls her Francesca or Cesca) - so Cora works with my natural nicknaming style, if that's even a thing.

I love it!
Buffy connection for me Smile

CaitlinsYellowSocks · 06/02/2019 06:58

I LOVE it and would have lobbied hard for it if we'd had a girl. It reminds me of Shakespeare and Anne of Green Gables. Cora could work as a shortening although it wouldn't necessarily be shortened unless you wanted it to be - there is a Cordelia in DS1's nursery and she is called by the full version.

DH thought it was a bit frilly and also thought people would assume we'd only called her Cordelia after the Buffy character.

Buttercupsandaisies · 06/02/2019 06:58

Cordelia was a main character in Buffy - I can’t get past that at all!
