Is Lisa too dated?

Bear with me here! In terms of name styles we like – short, ending in A, we like L names – we realised that if you ignore any attached meaning and just look at the name objectively, Lisa is really great!

Unfortunately most people do not just ignore the meaning/feelings attached to a name though, so... hmph. But is it too soon for Lisa to make a comeback? Bear in mind, it fell out of the top 100 in 1995, so there are very few people under 23 with the name, meaning that by the time my child is 5+, nobody under 30 (maybe even 35/40) will even see it as dated any more. It will just be a fairly unusual name to all those people.

What does mumsnet think? Grin

@jessstan2 , Bethany is from a place name, not from Elizabeth. It doesn't shorten to Lisa

MintyFreshOne · 26/10/2022 08:31

SemperIdem · 06/02/2019 13:17

I don’t dislike it. Though every single one I know has people shorten it to “Lis” prn “lease” on a regular basis.

Pretty much

KirstenBlest · 26/10/2022 08:25

Is also a dimunitive of Bethany.
How?

RhubarbFairy · 26/10/2022 08:23

Just change*

RhubarbFairy · 26/10/2022 08:23

@LovelyLi

You're an adult. Just just your name by deed poll to include the middle name you want. You are allowed to do that.

RhubarbFairy · 26/10/2022 08:15

DS2 is 9 and has a Lisa in his class. I like it. I've always thought it was a pretty name.

Dreamingcats · 26/10/2022 07:48

I love it.

StupidSmallFruit · 26/10/2022 07:41

How many more Lisa threads are you planning to bump, @LovelyLi, just to post the exact same message on each one….?

We get it, you like Lisa Marie.

LovelyLi · 26/10/2022 02:30

My name is Lisa. Was born 1977. I love my name a few in school had the same name as was popular at the time. I wish I was given a middle name though! Lisa Louise? Lisa Marie? I especially like it when the there’s a ring to the name, first and second name starts with same initials. I hope this will have a come back . Like Laura , Emma , Sarah etc most people call me Leigh. Would I change it No. my Dad give me this name on 3rd August 1977. He was my Hero. Elvis passed away on the 16th . Wish I’d been given the second name of his daughter Marie . Would have prefer Lisa Louise though. I love Lily Louise too 😘 I love Laura , Liza also x

sparklefarts · 08/02/2019 07:59

But I also know a fantastic, well educated, kind Lisa who everyone absolutely loves when they meet her.

You must have met me Grin

Lisa's a good name., worked well for m me Grin (I'm 31)

WeMarchOn · 08/02/2019 07:17

itsbritneybiatches · 07/02/2019 23:59

39 even

itsbritneybiatches · 07/02/2019 23:59

I'm A lisa I'm 49

Sakura7 · 07/02/2019 23:40

I find it funny that anyone could call Lisa dated when you see some of the old granny names coming into fashion now.

It's a great name, if you like it use it. A friend of mine recently called her daughter Laura, which is in a similar category. I know lots in their 30s and 40s so it's refreshing to hear it used for a baby.

SandyY2K · 07/02/2019 23:32

Lisa is fine. Not too dated at all.

MelinaM · 07/02/2019 23:17

Liza?

Cookit · 07/02/2019 18:40

I think I’m obviously in a minority but I don’t like the name very much. I’m mid thirties and went to school with a Lisa and it was a name I didn’t like then. It doesn’t sound quite as bad to me now and it being pretty uncommon probably helps but I don’t think it’s anything special certainly.

FlipF · 07/02/2019 17:53

i love the name Lisa. It’s pretty and so much less boring than the modern equivalents suggested by other posters.

starkid · 07/02/2019 16:11

It's dated and there were millions when I was in school.
In a similar vein, I like Elisa, Leda, Leta, Lina, Liza (said like Liza Minelli)

Cantankerouscat · 07/02/2019 09:05

I know an Elisabeth who is known as Lisa if you wanted the option of a more 'formal' name.

SingingSands · 06/02/2019 23:27

It's lovely, and so much nicer than all the awful Layla, Lyla, Lula names that are around now.

GrannyHaddock · 06/02/2019 23:23

It is a bit dated: Leonardo was painting a Lisa 500 years ago, and it's doubtful that it was a new name then.

OccasionallyIncomplet · 06/02/2019 23:09

Dated. It's also what I call one of the 'boring names'. It's not help that the Lisa's I have also known have been awful people.

ForLifeNotJustChristmas · 06/02/2019 23:07

I don't think it's dated. It's pretty classic.
That said, there were two horrible girls named Lisa at my school, real bitches, so I would never be able to use it!
