What would your young children name their younger siblings?

8 y/o DS: “Harry” - not bad
7 y/o DS: “Elsa” - fair enough
5 y/o DD: “umm Bounce!” - why??
1 y/o DD: “no mama” - i agree, no more!

My DS(2) is adamant that his little brother or sister will be called Lightning McQueen. I'm actually pregnant at the moment but he doesn't know yet.

My 2yo DD is going to be having a little sister in the summer. I asked her opinion on names and she answered Enid!
I guess after the cat in hey duggee! Just amazed she didn't say Moana tbh.

Like a couple of previous posters, we did actually use DS's suggestion for DD. And it was the same name as one of the pp! We were fixed on something else but he kept bringing home pictures from nursery with her name on and just before the birth DH and I realised we both really liked it. It suits her so well.

Of course since she was born, DS never uses her actual name but a series of ever-more-elaborate nicknames which drives me bonkers.

Moody cow. Thats what the younger dd would call the older dd.

Twinkle or Star. This was apparently acceptable for a girl or a boy. When the baby arrived we picked DH choice of make as it suited best, DC1 then kept telling us the baby should have been called my choice of name!

DS wanted to call DD “Jupiter” after the fire engine in Fireman Sam. He was obsessed with fire engines at 3-4 ish.

I know a child named by her older sister. Maisy Dora, after Maisy Mousevabs Dora the Explorer, The happening kids’s TV of the time.

Me and my brother were adamant that our baby sister should be called ... Hercules Treetop..
I don’t know why... her name is Molly

Dd (10) has very traditional taste in names, probably because hers is unusual. She likes Elizabeth, Sophie, Meredith and Olivia and often writes stories about them. For boys she likes Jonathan, which is who she's going to marry apparently.

DD wanted to call DS Chase after the Paw Patrol character. Or Bear. We didn’t go for either.

Like several others here we have a Thomas James in the family, named after the trains by his brother.

Sango, apparently. Girl or boy.
She might consider Gracie, if pushed.

I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant with a baby girl, and our 6yo DS announced the moment we told him he was going to be a big brother, 'It's going to be a girl and she's going to be called Rose.'

We have fallen in love with it! I think mostly because he has spent the last few months talking to her and calling her Rose and we now can't imagine her as anything else, and it's adorable to hear him talk about her using the name he picked. He loves that we're using the name he chose!

I wanted to call my little sister Thomas (after the train).

DD1 wanted to call her then unborn sister for Duck..

We didn't use it.

Said 3yo ds tonight regarding my 30 week bump: if it’s a girl we could call it Twiggy.

When I was pregnant with DC2, then-3yo DD had some good suggestions - Stripey in particular stood out. She also kept saying we should call him David and then dissolving into giggles - I think she thought David is a joke name 😂
She’d turned 5 by the time I was expecting DC3 and her name ideas had grown up accordingly. She was absolutely insistent that if it was a boy we should call him Buster. She stuck with Rosie for a girl, which I do actually like and has ended up as her middle name/nickname.
(I’m secretly still gutted DC3 wasn’t a boy - I was 100% behind Buster as a name. I’m sure we’d have worn DH down eventually )

I'm due with a boy any day, my four year old daughter's suggestions so far have included: Baby Dave, Baby Jesus, Baby Phil, Baby "I don't care if it's a boy let's call him Elsa Lily-Rose", Baby Loveyou and Baby Forrest.

I actually don't hate the last one....

Dd actually did name Ds in that it was her suggestion we went with.

Although when we told her she cried as she liked the name I wanted!

Mean dh (who was the lead force in going for the suggestion) wouldn’t let me switch!

My ds(5) was desperate last year for a sister he wanted to make Willow. He got a brother he will sometimes stubbornly call his sister willow

Girls:

Daisy or Sarah; surprisingly sensible! She loves these names and always has.

Boys:

Poopoobumweewee or similar.

Better not have any more boys then !

We let our eldest 3 choose youngest dc name. They picked Charlie

My sister was born when I was three. My parents asked what we should call her and I said Louise because that was the name of my wee friend at nursery. Amazingly, they went with it!

When asked what his brother should be called, ds1 (almost 3 at the time) always said Fireman Sam....Guess what his brother's name is?!

My then 3yo wanted to call the baby "Woof", when I said no he said we could call it "his name" and when I said we couldn't do that he said he would change his name to "best friend's name". The baby ended up as "best friend's name".
