Here's our shortlist - I favour Audrey but DH favours Marnie. I am not sure if Marnie sounds like a "proper" name - sounds a bit American / made-up / as if it's short for something? (no offence to any Marnies out there!). Sylvia and Francesca are compromise names that we are both OK with. Middle name is likely to be Joy, Valentina or Elizabeth.

Audrey
Sylvia
Marnie
Francesca

I like Marnie (my great grandmothers name, not short for anything) and Audrey

Chinks123 · 29/01/2019 15:21

I do like Marnie, but admit the Marnie from Geordie shore has put me off a little bit. Prefer Sylvie to Sylvia aswell.

starkid · 29/01/2019 15:17

I like Marnie (been playing a lot of Stardew Valley recently, she's sweet in it). I like Francesca especially with the nickname Frankie :)

JC4PMPLZ · 29/01/2019 13:49

Audrey - like Hepburn, beautiful
Sylvia - lovely, shimmery
Marnie - Hitchcock - is sassy, like it
Francesca - presume Fran Chesca......nice and with potential for shortenings, Frankie, Fran, Chessie

I don't watch TV but remember Corrie from watching it at my grandmother's. Names like Audrey, Ivy, Ida, Ena, Elsie... make me shudder.

detachablehoof · 29/01/2019 13:35

I don't watch TV so never heard of Audrey Roberts or Marnie in Girls!!

Hmm this is just reinforcing what I already thought - I don't think Marnie is enough of a proper name. Could be short for Margaret or something I guess but I'm not keen on that!

Audrey - Sweet
Sylvia - Don't like
Marnie - Don't like
Francesca - Love

mumofbun · 29/01/2019 13:26

Marnie just makes me think of the TV show Girls - it's a great show but some interesting scenes with Marnie!

Audrey isn't my fave - i would probably choose Sylvia

MikeUniformMike · 29/01/2019 11:21

I dislike Sylvia.
Audrey makes me think of Audrey Roberts off Corrie.
Marnie doesn't seem like a name.
Francesca is by far the nicest.

MarchInHappiness · 28/01/2019 22:59

I am not mad keen on any of them. But Francesca is alright, classic name, not that popular and I like Frankie as nn.

DramaAlpaca · 28/01/2019 22:54

I like them all with the exception of Francesca. I dislike all its diminutives as well.

Audrey is my favourite.

Astronica · 28/01/2019 22:41

Audrey or Francesca. These are miles out in front of the other 2. I like Sylvie rather than Sylvia. Sylvia just doesn't have the style and charm of the beautiful and feisty Francesca. Marnie just doesn't appeal to me at all. Francesca over Audrey because it's less used and has great nicknames.

Sophronia · 28/01/2019 21:30

Audrey Elizabeth or Sylvia Joy

nicslackey · 28/01/2019 21:02

Massive Hitchcock fan so I love Marnie, but also Francesca - really nice. Sylvia reminds me of Dr Hook and Audrey should make me think of Audrey Hepburn but actually makes me think of Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads!!!

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 28/01/2019 20:59

Sylvia or Francesca all the way. Audrey and Marnie are much less nice and also currently trendy.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/01/2019 20:57

Audrey and Sylvia are dinner ladies in their late 60’s.

Prefer Francesca but not keen on Frankie. Don’t like Marnie.

stinkypoo · 28/01/2019 20:32

I knew a Marnie at school - it was a nn for a boy called Martin.

golddustwomen · 28/01/2019 20:20

Absolutely love Audrey.

Shadow1234 · 28/01/2019 20:16

Francesca is lovely, with lots of shortenings. fran/Frankie//Franny/ Ceska.

Audrey would be my second favourite.
Not keen on Sylvia or Marnie

Zoflorabore · 28/01/2019 17:25

Dd (7) watches a lot of crap YouTube videos and the name Audrey crops up a lot but seems to be pronounced "Odrey" which is what dd has called one of her new Baby Alive dolls at Christmas.
She spells it as Audrey but pronounces it the American way!

I didn't like it at first but it has really grown on me.

erja · 28/01/2019 17:22

Audrey - I hate this name, just sounds frumpy and non feminine to me (sorry!
Marnie - okay. I think it's a proper name but I know 2 (who spell it Marni) so never questioned it.
Sylvia - prefer Sylvie by a mile and don't know of any so nice and unusual.
Francesca - it's alright, only for the nn options (Frankie or Cheska!) I'd use Cheska on its own though!

Ploppymoodypants · 28/01/2019 17:07

Love all of them. Marnie the least though.
I would say that Audrey and Sylvia are v popular here at the moment (we considered both for DD) so they might date. Although that’s not necessary a bad thing. But you might mind.

Tubbykins · 28/01/2019 16:44

I agree with you about Marnie, sounds like a nickname/ shortened name.

Audrey Elizabeth is nice.

VoyageInTheDark · 28/01/2019 16:43

Like Francesca and Marnie. Audrey and Sylvia sound a bit too old ladyish for me
