So I thought we were agreement on a girls name for the bump - Juliette.

Now DP has just told me he’s not keen on it because he just thinks it would get shortened to Julie.

I’ve told him he needs to come up with some name suggestions for a possible girl but is he right on the Juliette will just be Julie front?

Obviously I can see why he might think that but all the Juliet / Juliette’s ive ever known have never been called Julie

The only Juliet’s I know are always Juliet. Think Julie very unlikely.

My 8 year old is called Juliette and has never been called Julie in her life. Not even shortened to Jules or anything, only thing I call her apart from it is Monkey!

The only Juliet I know is a Lettie. I think 3 syllable names do tend to get shortened to 2 syllables. If you have a preference as to the nickname or just prefer the longer name just insist on calling her by that. On nursery/ preschool/ reception forms they always ask the name of the child and then what name they are known by.

You can’t control it once they’re older obviously but as a baby/ young child you can mostly control it.

I used to know a Juliette and everyone called her Juliette.

It’s a lovely name.

I think Juliette probably wont get shortened to Julie.... I know a Juliet and no one ever called her Julie. Why would you when the name is not that much shorter? Jules or Ju Ju or something maybe.... but Julie is not really a nickname is it?
I dont think Juliette is a name that would often get shortened. It's only three syllables!
