Boys names popular at nursery atm

All you parents/teachers out there...

Tell me what are the popular boys names in nursery and reception class atm? Is there a few of the same you notice?

Want to avoid a popular name for our little boy ❤️

You need to check ONS lists rather than just lists you google. The baby centre ones aren't official for e.g. Dark Greener names is an online tool that lets you check a name from 1996-the latest releases name data (so the year before, new data is usually released August-September). Names like Arlo, Ezra, Harper, Violet, are very popular names that parents tend to think are unusual because they were just 5 years ago and have risen dramatically.

My dd’s nursery has duplicates of Maisie, Arjan, Caleb and Imogen. Dd2 has a top ten name and I have never met another one, dd1 has a name that normally hovers between 60-80 on 100 top names and there are three in her class of 28! Name your child what you love!

@dreamingofsun I think that's what we will have to do as we finally have a name we both like, and turns out it's much more popular than I thought...but only one we agree on!

The name I really want is very unusual but he changed his mind on it after 18months of that being 'THE' name....he may change it back once we see babe I guess.

Choosing a name is so hard!

we chose unusual names for all our kids and then one of our godparents used the same....so there are no guarantees. best to go with ones you love

My best friend works in schools. Duplicates = Alfie, Archie, Leo, Theo, Noah, Oliver. A couple of Hunters too!

Yes, that's one option, but another is to look outside the current top 100 or 250. There are literally thousands of great names to choose from that aren't currently 'trendy'.

There is nothing wrong with having a popular name IMO, but if you DON'T want a really popular name, my suggestion would be to have a think about some of the names that were popular in your own year at school and choose one which you like.

Any name which sounds "current" will probably be popular. You mentioned Archie and Oscar--sorry, but I know loads of each.

Oscar, Jacob and Noah. I know 7 Oscars under the age of 5 plus 6yo has 2 Oscars in her class (and both are Oscar S).

I've gone on that and when it asks for your area it gives the most popular name in area, but is only given the top name, as in one name....is there a way to have a list or is that normal?

One of the reasons I dislike really popular names is I remember my brother (20 now) coming home to tell us about his day and there was like 7 Bradley's, so when he would talk about Bradley 1, Bradley 2, naughty Bradley, big Bradley etc I use to find it a nightmare keeping up!! The poor teacher having to have all these children with the same name 😂 I was lucky, I was named a really old fashioned name so the only one in preschool, infant and junior! When I went to senior school my name was only shared with girls about 5-6 years younger!! My name is much more popular now though!!

I know no matter what name we choose there will be someone with the same name etc but don't want a mega popular name if that makes sense!!

Yes lots of Alfies around here too!! Including my mums dog 🐶 and loads of Arthur's atm in our area...lovely name, but makes me think of Pauline Fowler shouting to Arthur 😂😂
