Persephone is a lovely name!

My son has a friend called Galileo, he gets called Gally.

aliceelizaloves · 26/01/2019 06:25

I live in an area where boys all seem to have cutesy 'ie' names like Freddie, Alfie, Albie, etc and girls are called Evie, Ava, Ivy etc. People often say my son's name is unusual (it's not). So the most unusual ones in groups I go to are probably the common but retro ones. I know a baby Dennis and baby John and a little Margaret (called.Meg).

CoffeeRunner · 26/01/2019 06:20

A few years ago now but Bohemia (Bo for everyday use) with a little brother Baroque (Rocky).

Another Boh! But written like that - with the exclamation mark Confused. Although that can’t be on official documents - can it?

Lincoln.
Ophelia (actually a nice name but the teasing possibilities would put me off).
Zen (boy).

GrammerlyH · 26/01/2019 06:15

I love some of these names! Fox, Delilah, Daphne, Piper, Persephone, Horatio. I even quite like Huckleberry, though you’d have to be Bear Grylls to pull it off...

Toffeeandyawns · 26/01/2019 06:01

Budley
Oak
Neo - with a sister Trinity (The Matrix!)
Hudson
Persephone
Ernest
Kipp

AlliKaneErikson · 26/01/2019 05:49

Blanket. I wish I was joking.

RedDwarves · 26/01/2019 05:43

I know a baby Emmylou. I don't think her parents are Harris fans either, which makes it all the more unexpected.

HairyWorm · 26/01/2019 05:17

I love the name Fox! Will be using it for my own DS due shortly.

MeTigger · 26/01/2019 05:00

Etney (boy)

Tappyfeet92 · 26/01/2019 04:48

Retro
Vibe
Foxx
Stormi
Herbert

FluffyMcCloud · 26/01/2019 04:45

I know several kids called Khaleesi! I didn’t know the GoT connection either but I’ve since been told.
The most unusual names I’ve heard for babies recently are

Ebba
Marfulo
LouAnn (spelled that way with the capital A!)
Fronde

And I met a baby Martin last week! Like a tiny fresh squishy baby Martin! That felt unusual to me. He was gorgeous tho!

TwiceAsNice22 · 26/01/2019 04:39

The names that stand out from Playgroups and toddler classes are:

Solar (boy)
Eliott (girl)
Banjo (boy)

AnxiousCucumber · 26/01/2019 04:32

In my 3 youngest's classes the most unusual have been

Phylicia
Crue
Reef

And not unusual but less common on a 4year old now; Colin.

My 6 year old has an unusual name that often gets misread as Nevaeh. I'm not a fan.

NannyPear · 26/01/2019 04:14

That's exactly how it was pronounced Laquila. I'd never heard it before but liked it. Definitely spelt Efrosyni. Her mum had a Greek name too so that's probably the connection.

greyspottedgoose · 26/01/2019 04:12

@TalithaWallis iestyn is a welsh name

As is Bran, short for Branwen

MrsFoxPlus4 · 26/01/2019 04:03

Zuri, can’t think of any other shocking ones

Laquila · 26/01/2019 00:43

I know a baby Graeme. Also a Shilah and a Lux.

How’s Effrosyni/Effrosyne probounced? As in eh-FRO-si-nee?

SleepingStandingUp · 26/01/2019 00:40

I love Aurelia too and Lucifer would be beautiful if you could disconnect it from the demonoc connotations

SleepingStandingUp · 26/01/2019 00:39

& My own little ds is called castiel Supernatural fan or just a fan of angels? I like Castiel but DH vetoed it

We have a Neale at nursery which isn't unusual per se but it is for a 3 yo

Friends daughter is Raven

Seqkat · 26/01/2019 00:37

Effrosyne is a very common Greek name (with quite a few variations in spelling possible too). Often shortened to Effy!

HappyGoLuckyGo · 26/01/2019 00:30

I recently met a Gal at baby group, which I suppose is more well known now due to Gal Gadot, but the family is American so to me it’s like calling my daughter Girl...

Also a Malachi.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 26/01/2019 00:17

Malcolm.
Alan.
John.
Elily (start like Ella, finish like milly)
Jemima
Delilah
Joan

Some not so much unusual, maybe ahead of the game for granny chic?

Holidayshopping · 26/01/2019 00:11

I loved the Outsiders! Darry was my favourite though.

Most unusual names I’ve come across-Peaches, Oceana, Buddy, Reef, Promise.
