It was a few years ago now but I did hear a mum call out to her twin boys in a shop, "Harley, Davidson/Davison, stay with me!"

My DS has an unusual name but it's not weird/made up/difficult to spell or pronounce. We know of one other person with the same name, and one character in a book.
I always read threads about unusual names to see if I can spot anyone that knows us! 😁

BooseysMom · 26/01/2019 22:01

Actually Juniper was the most unusual i knew 5 years ago. Also Beatrix and Maisie.
Most uncommon boy's name was Berthold, Bertie for short. But most were very traditional and dare I say boring!

muddiecuddles · 26/01/2019 21:38

Orly is a common girls name among the Jewish community in New York - I think it means light or something along those lines. I wanted to call DD3 it but it's too vowelly with our surname.

Friends have a Denis.

Bowie
Xerces
Buster
Buddy

TheMagicTorch · 26/01/2019 21:19

I was in the doctors waiting for my appointment and the name 'Rierin' came up on the screen for a little boy. I'm assuming it's pronounced like Kieran but I had never seen it before!

ZogTheOrangeDragon · 26/01/2019 21:18

But Khaleesi translates in GoT to whore of a horse lord. Who would call their daughter that?

Marcipex · 26/01/2019 21:17

Not toddlers, but my sister teaches Geek and God. God's family are apparently particularly devout.

Scandaloso · 26/01/2019 21:13

Well not really. Some American preppy types like to give their daughters surname names like Blair or Porter. They're still boys names in my head though.

tenbob · 26/01/2019 21:13

Allegra, which isn’t in itself a strange name, but the mum always called her Leggy which was Confused for a small baby

There was also a Nelson which just made me think of the bully in the Simpsons

BooseysMom · 26/01/2019 21:12

Lucifer..OMG why would you?!! Shock

Bear is good. I have started calling my 5yo this as it seems to suit him!

I saw a Rae-ellen written on a school notice board 20 yrs ago and not seen a single one since. I adore that name and wanted it if we had had a boy.

Juniper is getting more common.

Moo? Now come on!!
Grey-goose..ditto

Amazing some of them are. When I went to Baby groups 4 or 5 years ago there weren't any unusual names. Loads of traditional ones..George, James, tons of Charlies!
Maisie was the most unusual girl I knew.

We have a new baby in the family.. named Frank. First one i know of and being of a certain age can't stop thinking Frank Spencer!

tryinganewname · 26/01/2019 21:08

Spencer is a female character in Pretty Little Liars so definitely a legit girl's name.

MissMarplesKnitting · 26/01/2019 20:55

Oh and I also know toddler/child Nirvana, Reef & Ocean

bobstersmum · 26/01/2019 20:40

I haven't read the full thread but I am sure one of Bear Grylls kids is called Huckleberry!

kalefire · 26/01/2019 20:38

Little girl called Tuqah. UK born and bred.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 26/01/2019 19:52

Scandaloso - Can you imagine. I bet there's a few Tyrion's and Jeor's and let's hope there's a few Khal's for the little Khaleesi's to hook up with when they are older (and yes she is a bloody boring character).
