What are your honest thoughts on Fox?

I liked the name as I've always loved Fox Mulder on X Files, DP likes it too (we can't agree on many names so that in itself is a miracle!).

Had a little search on the name - as you do - and quite a few articles came up tipping it as very popular in 2019 along with other animal names!

I'm not after a overly unique out of the top 1000 name or anything but now slightly put off as it's deemed 'trendy' - ha!

Also worried about parents opinions, teasing etc, but just love the name. Dilemma!

Also if your son was qualified for a job he'd never be discriminated because of his name, that's illegal obviously & although we know it happens anyway by 2040 or whatever they'll be plenty of 'different' names in that c.v pile!

For what it's worth I really like Fox, I think go for it.

For some reason I dislike bear, but not because it's an animal. It just is a no for me personally

@HoustonBess yes, this has definitely crossed my mind, it's a very 'strong' name and wonder if it would suit a more shy, retiring personality. But then I suppose you just don't know what your child will grow up to be like!

I like it although don't know whether I'd actually use it for a first name or not. It would definitely make me think of The X-Files though (which is a good thing 😁).
I semi suggested it to my husband for DS2 but he was having none of it.

@ecuse to you perhaps. Like some find Ben, Joe, Alfie, Harry, Henry, Oliver really boring. It's such a personal thing. You really have to go with what you like OP and not worry about people's opinions. They are just that. Myself and my siblings and now my DS all have very unusual names, honestly the only people who have ever being slightly rude about our names are the elderly. Never have any of us had any amount of bullying or snide comments people our age, growing up or at this age. I really enjoy not being another Sarah/ Lucy.

I am the first to encourage moving away from the tedium if the top 10 but that is a truly terrible name. People will snigger. Poor baby

Just go for it then it's a great name and you can't please everyone so don't even try to.

Imagine you're an employer faced with a pile of CVs. One of the people is called Fox. What are your initial thoughts?

It might be cute for a kid but you're saddling them with other people's preconceptions for life. Especially if they turn out to be a shy retiring type or otherwise unsuited to an outlandish name!

@MiaowMix haha! It's personal perception isn't it? One friend said Foxes carry disease and are unpleasant creatures but then another associated them with being smart and leaders (like in animals of farthingwood)

@MumUnderTheMoon I wouldn't mind it as a middle name, and more conservative first name, then maybe use Fox as a nickname but DP wants all or nothing - sigh!

It's no different to Teddy, Bear or Tiger. Actually Fox more masculine and stronger sounding those.

Agree, those names sound more normal and easy to say - maybe because Fox is so short and abrupt with the X. Or maybe it is simply the association with animal!

Love it. Plus foxes are gorgeous. He still could be a high court judge despite the mumsetters who panic if you call a child anything other than Anna or Tom 😉

Oh I love it! Do it :) he will grow with the name and it will suit him. Kids don't know any different, they only hear the opinions of narrow minded adults ;)

I think it's great no more strange than Bear. You could always use it as a middle name.

@lakehouse I like the sound too. But then I do like lovely sounding names like Theo and Leo and Finn also, which are total opposites to Fox!

This baby name malarkey is difficult.

My friends dn is called Fox, it suits him so well.
