What are your honest thoughts on Fox?

I liked the name as I've always loved Fox Mulder on X Files, DP likes it too (we can't agree on many names so that in itself is a miracle!).

Had a little search on the name - as you do - and quite a few articles came up tipping it as very popular in 2019 along with other animal names!

I'm not after a overly unique out of the top 1000 name or anything but now slightly put off as it's deemed 'trendy' - ha!

Also worried about parents opinions, teasing etc, but just love the name. Dilemma!

I love it, but it's not unusual. In 5 years they may be like all the Finns and Arlos and Willows which are now really used names! It's gorgeous though.

Well, is Bear acceptable? Obviously in one sense anything is acceptable unless it's obscene or something, but I have never actually met a real child or adult called Bear and personally think it's a liitle bit daft (big furry predator, presupposes a certain kind of stature and rather rough behaviour) , though I can see how it or Fox would arise as nicknames. Bearish means rough or clumsy or bad-mannered, a bear market is where the stocks plunge and it's a homophone for 'bare' meaning naked. So....

My nephew is Fox. He is a happy, strong and spitited little boy who suits it perfectly. If you live it go for it. Yes people may Initially raise and eyebrow but a child quickly grows into their name. Our Fox loves the uniqueness of his name x

Bear isn't acceptable. It's a nickname. Bear grylls parent's didn't name him bear.
His name is Edward.

Unusual but not completely unheard of if Bear is acceptable why not Fox?...

People need to let go of their concept of 'names that would suit An adult' because the majority of next generation adults are going to have names like this

I don't like the name Fox personally but I do agree with this.

I met someone once her stepson was called Wolfey. I thought it was a bit odd but on reflection pretty cool.

What's wrong with Wolf? I know lots of grown called Wolf, it's very popular in Germany, sometimes short for Wolfgang or Wolfram.

I’m sorry gently but you’re not allowed to have that opinion because in the future everybody is going to be called fox and kangaroo and it will be the adult Simons that sound silly.

I'm not for animal names. Sound all cute on little kids but are hideous for grown ups!

Was at the doctors at Xmas and the screen beeped and called for a WOLF PATEMAN 🙈 a full grown 50 odd year old man! Ridiculous

Youd probably attract more attention with a name like Cheryl or Barry! My friend is junior doctor and she is called Blossom and no ones taken the blindness bit of notice.

I think if we were to go for it I would do this so as you said if he did hate it he could use his middle name later in life...

I'm trying to put down other names on a list because it could be that baby comes and we may think 'Nope definitely not a Fox!' Grin

I have a name which is quite out there and has very negative connotations. It’s never hindered me or effected my career.

Imagine you're an employer faced with a pile of CVs. One of the people is called Fox. What are your initial thoughts?

Firstly I'd judge applicants on their qualifications not their name. However I would find Fox a much more interesting and memorable name than Jack, Alfie or Ollie! So if anything it's a positive!

@Calvinsmam you've really hit the nail on the head for me there! I liked it from X files without knowing it was actually quite a 'trendy' name now, and growing in popularity. This only came to my attention after I googled it and did further research into the name.

got to be honest, when I see these threads I like to put down the first thing that comes into my mine and on this one Fox = vermin or foxy lady! I wouldn't want to instantly think either of those when hearing someone's name
