What do your children wish they were called?

My six year old has a three-syllable first name and a five-syllable surname (well, two surnames, mine and DH's), and doesn't think he has a long enough name.

DD has expressed a wish to be called Summer. It would sound very odd with our surname!

Both mine are older teens and both love their names. The eldest one is a very uncommon name, but I have heard it on 2 other children over the years so I guess gaining popularity. The youngest ones name often pops up on those mumsnet threads about best/worse names, so the jury is out on that, as his name has been mentioned on both threads! He suits it though.

I wanted to be Sophia as a child only because I loved Sophia Loren 😂

Dd (15) said she would rename herself Yuki or Chan, (i think they’re anime characters)

DS (14, and a bit of a knob) said Marmaduke Ratscallion the Third.

My two eldest dd have unusual names ( I've only met one person with one of their names and that was whilst standing in a queue) they dislike their names. However my son loves he's unusual name.

I think it's 50/50 whether your kid will actually like the name their given. And I find it extremely stressful naming babies it's so hard 😬

Both my first and last name are incredibly unusual (to me anyway) as I have never met or know a famous person with the same first name, the only people I know with my last name are members of my dads side of the family who all live abroad and I have never met. I've always hated my name and wanted to be called something 'normal' as I used to say as a child. And I used to say if I got married it would have to be to someone with a last name like smith or jones so that I could shed my unusual last name lol. As an adult I still don't like either of my names but you learn to live with them. As a consequence I named my first child something very common, now 11 they have no problem with their name. I am currently pregnant and have chosen a name which isn't common but is uncommon enough that I don't know anybody with that name directly. So it will be interesting to see if when they are older they love their name or not!

DD2 wants to be called Susan.

DD 23 is called Hester, DS 18 Edmund and DS15 Freddy. They all like their names and so do I. But sad Freddy has become so popular.

I've got a very 60s/early 70s name and as a child was desperate to be called Elizabeth. There was a girl in my class called Elizabeth Cameron and I ached to have her name. Now I'm quite happy with my name.

My older 2 (dd1and ds) quite like their names. Dd2 has a timeless classic and would rather be known by her middle name, Jessie!

DS(12) loves his own name. It's quite unusual and very old. He was very excited when he discovered 3 others on FB.

My dd is 11, in her games when she was younger she called herself Emma.

If you ask her, she thinks Annabelle, and Michelle are beautiful, soft, faminine nanes!

Dd is 7 and has been calling herself Alizabeth for at least 3 years when she is playing role play type games. All her dolls are Alizabeth and she tells her school friends it's her middle name. Definitely starts with an A, not an E.

Not my child. But during my party girl days my alter ego was named Penelope "penny" when trying to be cute 😂😂 if I was on a night out getting male attention it's always the name id tell them! I was also veterinary student in these stories lol 🙄😂😂 anyway I wouldn't say my name's very common it's a type of Crystal/gem stone and I actually quite like it! But I always gravitated towards Penelope

DD wants something more exciting, apparently. He name isn’t particularly common either and she’s always complaining those racks of tat with names on never has hers.

Mine has a relatively unusual Welsh name and is desperate to be called Tom instead, because of the Tom Gates books.

Just asked my boys. The 10yo quite likes his name doesn’t know what else he’d rather be called anyway. The 7yo just said he doesn’t like his name and would rather be James which is my oldest son’s & Husband’s middle name! He’s never said anything before!
My daughter is only 14 months but I actually doubt her name all the time and wish I’d called her something else but then didn’t want to change it incase she wished I kept her original name when she’s older lol...
