Can I Use Minnie?

Me and DH are expecting our first DD in February. We really love the name Minerva shortened to Minnie. However my sister has pointed out that paired with our surname it will sound like her name is Minerva Mouse, or even worse Minnie Mouse! Do we still go for it?

It really depends how much your surname sounds like 'Mouse'

Morgan/Morris etc absolutely fine
House/Mass/Mace.... don't do it!

My DGM was a Minnie, it was her real name not a nickname. I think it's a really lovely name.

Minnie is a shit name, especially as a shorter term for Minerva when Minerva is lovely. Minerva doesn't need shortening anyway.

When I hear Minnie I think Mouse, teeny-tiny, Cooper, minge - in that order. I know one person who uses Minnie = minge and only met her 4 years ago, I never grew up using Minnie as a reference to my lady parts.

Give your daughter a real name.

Minnie is fine unless your surname is mouse, Cooper, Ha-Ha or magnum.

I wouldn't call a child Minnie because it's also a childish nn I've heard people use for vaginas. My nieces called it their Minnie so ruined forever for me. Maybe not a common issue but if your surname sounds like mouse I'd still stay clear.

Minnie is lovely, but we can't comment on the surname without knowing what it is. On a side track I smiled at "its what we called our fandango when we were little". Now you're all grown up you call it your ...fandango Smile

I just snorted at the idea of someone being called Minnie Morse! I'd definitely be thinking 'poor sod, what a burden that name is'. And Inspector Morse thought being called Endeavour was bad enough.

Our DD is called Minnie. I call her Minnie marmite as people either love it or hate it!

We love it although hate it when people think her name is Millie!!!

If it’s anything like Minnie Mouse then no you absolutely can’t. Your child will not thank you.

I nursed a minnie that was in her 90s!! It was her full name and not a NN! It really suited her! She was a farmer and fierce and sassy but had a soft side too! I love it ❤

Well it depends how close your surname actually is to Mouse...

If it’s something like Morse (Inspector), then I think Minnie Morse is pretty bad.

Just keep saying it out loud and you should figure out if it’s ok.

If your surname is actually mouse then no, don't do it. Otherwise sure. My husbands granny was Minnie.
