Seren/Steren

Seren = Welsh
Steren = Cornish
Both mean star. Which do you prefer and why? Also would you use as a first name or do you think they would be best as a middle name?

I've not heard of Steren. It does look a bit medical to me - sterile, sternum, etc, but that's ignorance on my part. I've only heard of Seren on here. But both are fine for middle names. Seren seems quite popular on here. I like Serena more, but that's a different name completely.

DH is Welsh and family still live in 'god's own country' and we considered Seren for first DC but decided against it in case we ever move back to Wales... I would never dream of calling my child 'Star' which is basically what everyone would think if we were in Wales!

Welsh origins here so would go for Seren, never heard of Steren.

I think most people won;t have heard of Steren. But yes agree with previous poster who said only if you know how to pronounce it

I would only use Seren if it was going to be pronounced correctly...ie NOT Se-run as is so often heard. It is Se-ren with a definite second e after the r. Otherwise it is just hideous to hear

blueskiesandforests I dont have either! I spose I prefer the beachy side of cornwall more than Wales! Not that you can choose a name on that basis.

Steren would also autocorrect to Steven constantly, which while a very 21st century problem, would be an almighty pain in the arse I imagine...

I've only heard of Seren and mistakenly thought Steren was a misspelling, so I personally wouldn't use Steren! I don't like the sound of Steren as I read it, but perhaps it has an unexpected pronunciation?

Do you have Welsh or Cornish heritage though? Surely that's the deciding factor!

Seren is gorgeous. Steren makes me think of a medical product (maybe the Ster bit looking like the word Sterile?)

Seren is nicer. Steren seems more......medical somehow. Maybe it reminds me of sterilise.

Not sure if it should be a first or middle name. Totally depends on what the other names would be.
