Cassia or Cassie on bc?

We love Cassie for a girl but I can’t stand Cassandra or Cassiopoiea (just find them very fussy) and think it’s a bit much with dd4’s name (Margot). So we’re left with either Cassia on bc with nn Cassie or just Cassie. Opinions?

Now our question is whether to go for Cassia Violet (my mum’s name) or Cassia Mathilde (my mil’s name)

Objectively I can see that Cassandra is a nice name but Only Fools And Horses forever ruined that name for me.

I love Cassandra but if it's not your bag, I'm guessing you won't be registering her name as that. I personally would, as she can use her nn in everything else. However I feel Cassie or cassia are not 'real' names. Obviously only my opinion!

Cassia is beautiful. I've never heard it as casha but the lady I knew was a Kasia (and polish) so I don't know if that's different anyway?

I have a Cassia and it's never been pronounced "Casha" by anyone. It can easily adapt to the nickname Cassie.

My name is very similar to cassia, and I get both the cass-ee-ah and cash-uh pronunciations. I think you'd get Cash-uh a fair bit in the uk as Kasia is a popular polish nickname and is pronounced that way.

Actually I've just remembered that one of Boris Johnson's daughters is called Cassia. But she may be a lovely person.

Really? It never even occurred to me that it would be pro uou fed Cash-a. I don’t think it’s too much of a problem- people would remember after being corrected once

I think you would get equal division between people pronouncing it cash-a and cass-ee-a.

Cassie Star - (or Smith or whatever) very nice, girl next door.
But Dr Cassia Star/Smith has a certain ring to it. Also Cassia Smith QC...
Yeah, yeah I know it sounds snobbish but there’s a grain of truth in it too.
As for the pronunciation, Casha sounds as if it’s the US way, like Aleesha for Alicia (Ali-si-a on this side of the pond, with the first ‘i’ short rather than long ). Similarly, I think most people would say Cass-e-a here.

I think we’re going to go for Cassia on the bc- you’re all right in that it gives her a choice and it is also a very elegant, beautiful name (in my opinion)

Cassia is lovely and also gives her a choice of names she can use when she’s older.
I could see a teenager might prefer Cassie (also lovely) but Cassia is a bit more unusual and might suit her!
