Baby here, arrived fast and 3 weeks early. No names picked out. DH wants Wren. What do folk think?

I like either classic/ old lady or modern unusual (Persephone, Ophelia, Ada, Eden).

We haven't announced it yet and are currently giving it a try.

I'm afraid I really don't like it. It just screams BIRD at me in a way that Robin and most flower names don't.

I know a Rena (renn-uh) though and think that's lovely.

Wrens are only overlooked or thought nondescript by people who don't bother to look or listen. Tiny, incredibly distinctive shape with their lovely upright tail, and LOUD! We have one living just outside, and he wakes us up some mornings singing at full blast on top of the bird box. Incredible volume for such a tiny bird.

I know! We have one nearby and it wakes DS2. He wanted to know what bird it was so we spent a while listening to different bird calls online. As soon as I played the Wren one he said that's it! And now we notice them when we're out and about as they sound very distinctive.

Ren is OK for boys or girls but I don’t like Wren.

I like Wrens but they are tiny, fragile prey birds. No one would consider using it for a boy so why for a girl?

It sounds incredibly fragile to me. I'd never name a baby after something fragile or delicate.

Serendipity? Then Wren as nn. If she doesn't like it or it doesn't suit her, she could go by Serrie or the full name.

How about calling her Florence with (W)Ren for short, as PP said? I do think Wren is a bit naff. Might have been OK as a unique name once, but it's two a penny now. Eden seems like a nice compromise between your DH and your style of names. Mavis? Means song thrush and it's old lady chic.
