What are the ones that you ruled out because you weren't brave enough to use them? What are the names that you really like but wouldn't ever be brave enough to use in future?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DammitOedipus · 18/01/2019 22:08

Guinevere
Daenerys
Judas
Fedele

I love them, but I haven't got the balls to face the inevitable commentary.

Magpiefeather · 18/01/2019 08:09

I may have spelled it wrong! Only one I’ve heard of is isambard kingdom Brunel

Lizadork · 18/01/2019 02:02

Lochley or Lochsley (Robinhood)

explodingkitten · 18/01/2019 00:35

Raven Seldon (Asimov fan)

BrylcreamBeret · 18/01/2019 00:32

Magpie I had never heard of Isambard before but saying it out loud is gorgeous, no more children for me but I may have a kitten in the future 😁

Magpiefeather · 17/01/2019 14:29

I don’t think most of these are THAT out there.... I would not even blink at an atticus or Persephone !

I really liked Basil, again not all that out there but my DH thought it was a bit too Fawlty Towers!

I have known some quite unusually named children....
Balthasar (bazzy for short)
Isambard (Izzy for short)
Precious
Tanner

Lennie is mine for a girl too! I would definitely use it if I ever have a girl! @EllaDownTheLane

ThePug · 17/01/2019 14:13

@still I ignored the comments and have a little Digby napping on my lap right now, no regrets.

If he or his big brother had been girls they'd have been Persephone, NN Sephie.

I'm not a very 'out there' person so I'm surprised both these names are in here within 2 pages!!

tammytoby · 17/01/2019 14:00

Cohen isn't unusual! Lovely name.

PrincessDaff · 17/01/2019 12:54

I love unusual names but my partner wouldn't have it! I wanted Cohen for our ds but instead we ended up calling him one of the most popular names from last year 😩. It still upsets me when I hear another child with his name, wish I had stood my ground haha.

tammytoby · 17/01/2019 12:49

Most of the names on here are lovely and I'm surprised that they're regarded as 'unusual'!

sunshineandshowers21 · 17/01/2019 12:48

i love the name freedom. i fell in love with it years ago when i read a book where one of the main characters is a gypsy called freedom. i’ve had two boys and considered using it as a middle name but could never convince my partner! i also love atticus.

User10fuckingmillion · 17/01/2019 12:45

Artemis

Doris19 · 17/01/2019 12:41

@babybean19 here's the thread I mentioned!

Doris19 · 17/01/2019 12:34

Blair or Persephone (I love the idea of nn Percy!!) for a girl.

Cosmo or Ramsey for a boy. Ramsey is a family name but not sure if it might get mistaken too much now for Ramsay (ie the baddy in GoT!)

thismeansnothing · 17/01/2019 12:34

Scout
Elliot
Both for DD

babybean19 · 17/01/2019 12:28

I LoVE unusual names...but it's my husband who won't brave it and be different!
I totally am in love with Bligh for a boy, and praying I get my own way 🤭

Januaryblues29 · 17/01/2019 10:06

Pollyanna
Seraphina
Persephone

KateTTC123 · 17/01/2019 08:01

Aster
Blythe - With my surname, it sounds just like "blithely"
Dasha
Delphi
Galina
Golda / Goldie
Hera
Juno
Lavender
Lilith - Assume too many people would think of the demon
Milou - Tintin's dog
Polly
Selah
Wednesday - Would use as a middle name without second thought, though
Zosia

AlliKaneErikson · 17/01/2019 05:28

I wasn’t brave enough to use Anastasia or Kennedy.

EllaDownTheLane · 17/01/2019 01:46

My favourite names for girls are James, Lenny and Stevie. Not brave enough to use them though.

BrylcreamBeret · 17/01/2019 01:15
