No more children for me, but i keep looking at 3 week old DD2 and thinking she looks likeva Molly. Not the name we've gone with and completely doesnt go with our surname so will be sticking with the name we have given her but just looking for thoughts on Molly

I love the name Molly. Always feels like the name of a fiesty and capable woman.

It’s lovely, and I know a wonderful 13 year old Molly so possibly that’s why I like it so much

However I really love Elspeth! It’s a gorgeous name but as a PP said possibly feels a bit grown up for a newborn, but she’ll soon grow into it!

It was the slang word for “period” in the area of Scotland I grew up in. “I’m on my molly” is what we’d all say.

It’s also the slang word for the drug ecstasy in a lot of America.

My goddaughter is Molly. She's 12, clever and absolutely gorgeous. I love the name because I love her.

Elspeth is so much nicer than Molly. Could you not call her Elsie for short?

Elspeth is lovely but not baby cute, which might be the wobble. You aren't a baby long though, so stick with Elspeth - would calling her Ellie while she's little feel more cute?

Elspeth is a great name :-)

Growing up in Edinburgh, Molly meant unfashionable or dowdy clothes - so "look at what she's wearing, it's so molly!" Plus the only Molly I know is in my daughter's circle of friends and is not a pleasant girl.

I'm not particularly keen on Molly, but you could always use it as an "at home" nickname despite it having no connection to Elspeth.

Elspeth is a lovely name BTW Smile

Elspeth is a great name, but it doesn’t fit a tiny curled up newborn in the same way it will a cheeky toddler or sparky child and beyond.

It’ll just take time for her to own it, but it’ll happen!

I loved Molly when I was younger but I looked up the meaning and was disappointed to find it was 'bitter one'. Went off it a little after that.
I still think it's a pretty name, and people rarely look up meanings! I agree with PP's though about it sounding weak.

Thank you. See its totally not my usual style (too cutesy) so i dont know why i keep looking at her and thinking Molly. Her name is Elspeth btw which i feel has more spark, but doesnt seem to fully fit her atm
