Birth certificate name

Hi we registered DD the longer version of her name however she is known since day 1 by her shorten version! Her name is Elizabeth so her short version is not the most commonly known nn for it ! However I am now doubting whether the nn should just be on her bc ?
What are people thoughts

I do like Elizabeth and I love traditional names and this was my thinking originally which is why we registered her Elizabeth ! However now her name is being used and only known by the shorten name which could be a name in its own rights im thinking whether that should just be her ‘official’ name.

Is her Nn Bess(ie) you don't have to answer im just noseyGrin I would just leave Elizabeth as it is and she can choose.

Personally I'd leave it alone. Much better to be Elizabeth and be able to pick from a variety of nicknames when older than to be called 'Betty' (for example) and have nowhere to go with it if she doesn't like it in later life.

Why would you want to change her name? Do you no longer like Elizabeth?

Fwiw she can be known as without ever being called Elizabeth I kind of understand why you want to change it though.

I’d keep it as Elizabeth on the birth certificate.
I’ve got a short nicknamey type name (lucy) and Although it’s a stand-alone name in its own right I always wished my parents had have put something longer (Lucinda, Lucille) on my birth certificate so I had a choice when I was grown up. I’ve always felt that my name is a ‘little girls’ name and wish I could have something more grown up.

My first name is usually short for something else. I really wish I had the full version on my birth certificate because if I did I'd use a different shortening. As a result both of my DC have a "proper" name on their birth certificate but go by a shortened version day to day - but they could use their full name in formal settings.

I do know she can go use shortening and people do go by other names. But I’m aware you can amend certificate in 12 months of registering so I don’t no whether just to use the nn she is always known by !

My Mil was Elizabeth but she went by another name.

I'm Elizabeth even though my parents had already decided on the chosen nn before I was born. They have always called me that, but I've gone through various different names all my life.

May not be relevant, but I always found it much easier when abroad to tell people my name was Elizabeth as this is a recognisable name in most countries. Whereas many of the nicknames aren't.

She might want to use Elizabeth when she is older or not it will be up to her. Personally I would just leave it loads of people go by different versions of their names.
