Birth certificate name

I would change it. I don't really understand calling a child a name then giving them a completely different nickname that you only call them by.

Definitely keep Elizabeth. Betsy is a little kid name and when she gets older she will probably be glad of Elizabeth as an option.

I would keep Elizabeth on the birth certificate. She may want to use a different nickname when she is older as Betsy might be a bit "cute"

I personally don't think you need a 'long name' on your bc and usually would say just put the nn. But if you've already registered her I'd probably leave it. It does give her more options when she's older . Also Betsy might be one of those names she grows out of , it is very cute as people said , I can imagine it on a little one or an old lady but not on a teen/20/30 year old . So she might want to use something else

My name gets shortened by most people, the only people that really call me by the longer are work places etc. Although its not a completely different sounding name just a short version

A close friend of mine is Elizabeth but she's always been called Libby. Never has she been called Elizabeth. We're in our 20s now and she still goes by Libby at all times.

I’d keep it as Elizabeth as well, as fashions change. Early in the 20th century a lot of Elizabeths were known as Betty, then at some point Liz/Lizzie seemed to take over. But all of the Lizs I know are over 30 now. Maybe Betsy is the current favourite shortening of Elizabeth (I wouldn’t know as I’ve only met one toddler Elizabeth), but who knows what will sound current in 30 years’ time?

Just leave it be. My boys both use the short versions of their names, even on the school register. They are teenagers now. It just gives them the choice, if they want a more formal option.

I'd keep Elizabeth as it gives her more options when she's older, she might decided she prefers liz or Beth or Bessie or the full name.

FWIW every school my dc have attended have asked for their name and what they are known as so you can have Elizabeth on the paperwork and Betsy on the register and her book bag etc. My dd has always been known as her shorter name but now she is at school always introduces herself as her full name.

Betsy is a very cutesy nn. I’d keep Elizabeth.

DS(10) is officially Samuel. He’s always been known as Sam. In the last year or so he’s favoured Samuel, he says it’s more grown up.

I think once a name is given, it belongs to the person it's given to, and it's up to them to decide how they want to use it.

Your dd might not like the short version as she gets older and might prefer to be known by a different version. People quite often choose to be known by different names/nicknames at different points in their lives/in different situations.

Oh I don't know about this little girls name thing names come and go Betsy is probably along the same lines as Lilly and Daisy or libby and i know Adult/child of all 3 and the adult Masieis 80 odd it doesn't sound like a little girls name.

I have a diminutive name on my birth certificate it's the only name I go by. I hate it when people try and use the full version.

I think Betsy is cute but that’s the point it’s cute. She may well hate it when she’s older and wish you’d left Elizabeth because Betsy really is a little girls name.
Ds2 is know by a shortened version of his name and everyone calls him it. It’s used in school, at swimming lessons at home. He told the nurses it was his name when he was in hospital recently. But he’s nearly 9 now and when his teacher asked what he wanted on his report card his nn or his full name he asked her to put his full name and he was only 7 at the time. So while he very much sees himself as “Betsy” he does realise on some level that Elizabeth is a far more grown up and official name. You can call her any nickname you like but I really do think you run the risk of her hating it when she is old enough to have a say later on. Leaving her name as it is avoids that while still keeping everyone happy in the long run.

Given the nn I'd leave Elizabeth on the birth certificate as I find Betsy quite cutsie for a grown up.

I would just leave it. Betsy is a lovely name but a bit cutesy. When she is older she may wish to use Elizabeth professionally if she wants a name with a bit of gravitas. I think it would be best to leave her this option.

If you leave it as Elizabeth then she can choose as she grows older what to use. She may want to be Beth or Liza. Leave it

If you change it you won't have a formal 'telling off' name that you can use so she knows you mean business.

If the shortening is something like Beth or Elise I may change it. If it's Lizzy/Libby or similar I would leave it as Elizabeth.
