what’s the consensus regarding the surname sharing two letters from the first name.

Examples are:
Freya Farmer

Heidi Hayden

Is that a no go? Too mean?

I know people called e.g. Jens Jensen lol and it's a bit silly, but as long as it's just the same first initials I don't see a problem. Don't overthink it if there's a name you love

My married name has also gone like that and I much prefer it to my maiden name. I think they sound great.

My married name became a name like that. The first one in yours sounds ok the second less so. So I would say it depends on the name.

eg. Joshua Jackson sounds fine

As long as its not something like Edward Edwards or William Williams I think it's ok.
