Very similar first name and surname.

what’s the consensus regarding the surname sharing two letters from the first name.

Examples are:
Freya Farmer

Heidi Hayden

Is that a no go? Too mean?

I know of a May Day ( married name) whose friends then always called her May Day rather than just May

I went to school with someone who called their child Jayden Hayden ( surname is Hayden ) and it sounds odd to me.

I like Henry Harvey. I’ve seen, on instagram, a new baby called Loxley Harvey. The double ey is awful to my ear and I don’t like the name Loxley, bit of a tongue twister. Henry sounds good though Smile

Our surname is Harvey, DH really likes the name Henry.... Henry Harvey is that just wrong? We are really struggling to come up with a boys name we both like. He would get the middle name James but it would rarely be used!

My married name is like that it's ok but I definitely would not deliberately do it naming a child. Day to day I've always used the short version of my name which makes it better.

Most of my fav names rhymed with dh's surname. Had to find alternatives as thought it sounded silly eg. Judith Smith. Alliteration is better, so I guess it depends where the letters are and do they made same sounds?

Not quite the same but I know someone who took their husbands name when they married and became Hayley Bailey

I also know someone who took her husbands name and is now Phillipa Phillips Grin awful.

Yeah, we all know an illiterate parent with a ridiculously names offspring.

I had never, until this thread, realised that my DS's first name and surname share three letters. Which should indicate how much of a non-issue it is! They are alliterative but I like that, whilst others don't.

I agree with others, as long as it's not silly then it's probably not noticeable either

My first & last names alterate after I married DH. I prefer this to what I had before, particularly as both names are unusual.

OP, it depends on the names you wish to use & many can work while others sound daft.

My favourite alliterative name is January Jones (the Mad Men actress). Love the 3(4?) syllables with a single syllable surname too.

I think it sounds a bit ridiculous in the examples you've offered, but don't listen to me because I'm 100% convinced I could have a Lillian Lee i.e. Lily Lee. Grin

It’s really weird. I know a woman who didn’t just do it with one of her DD’s but with both of them. They have the same first name bar one letter and the names are very similar to the surname. Can’t say the names because it’s outing but it’s bad...

I think it usually sounds cool and like they could be an actor or something eg Amy Adams.

BIL/SIL’s DD has the same initial for all three names! All good as long as it’s not KKK Grin

One of my DC has the first two letters the same in his first name and surname. Two syllables then two syllables. I didn't choose it but I like it a lot - it sounds more strong / superhero than twee.

It's personal preference I think, rather than an accepted general view of it being awful / amazing. It's lovely to have a monogram of the same 2 letters though! Marilyn Monroe - MM etc. #helpful
