Where abouts are you based? I think I might need to rethink Reuben then. My husband isn’t the biggest fan anyway

Here it’s Amelia/Emilia/Amelie still. Can’t believe how popular it is and has stayed for a long a time- my 10 year old sister is one of 4 Amelias in her class and there’s usually a couple in every baby group i go to too.

Ezra suddenly very popular.

I know! Up until last year I'd never met an Ezra of any age, but now I know of three baby Ezras. I suppose it's the 'new Noah', an underused (for now) OT name.

To all the people who mentioned Reuben as being popular - what area do you live in? I work with children in east London and have only met one child with the name. I love it, but don’t want to use it if it’s going to be the next Noah or Jacob

Of course you've got to love the name! But I'm much more likely to love a beautiful interesting underused name than a very trendy common overused one!

tammy surely it’s more important to give your child a name you love (you’ll be using it 1647 times a day) than worry about popularity.
I’ve met quite a few little Olivias, Islas and Darcys. Boys names there seems to be more variation but they all seem to end in ‘ie’

Go with whatever you want and don't worry about how common it is

Unfortunately it's not you but your child that has to live with the name. A very common name can be a real pain in my experience. So DO think about how common a name already is. There are thousands of great names to choose from!

I agree with 'Go with whatever you want and don't worry about how common it is'. I picked a name for DS2 that wasn't even top 100 at the time of his birth. It's a classic English name, but not fashionable currently, and when he went to school he was one of two in his class of 12!

I have an Ivy but she’ll be eight this year and we’ve never personally met another Ivy. We’re in Yorkshire though, not South London Grin.

Every second girl here is called Eva. I must know 12, there’s 3 in my daughters nursery class alone.

Felix and Reuben are very common too.
All nice names, but all the parents seem to think they are the most unique people who’ve chosen a rare name 🤷‍♀️

Check out Dark Greener names website. It uses up to date ONS data to show you how many times a name has been used for the last 10 plus years. It's wise you are trying to find out, use a popular name if you wish, but the amount of people who choose a very popular name because it isn't popular, and the later say it wasn't popular until after they chose it is eye rolling.

Eee sound names are popular. Miley, Evie, Ellie, Archie, Ollie, Charlie. Unpopular names are the ones that you probably went to school with in the 80s: Chloe, Rebecca, Lisa, Lauren, James, Matthew, Gary, Paul.
