So out of curiosity I searched my own name in the mumsnet search function to see what opinions are on my name as a ‘baby name’.

Turns out I have a very very horrible name that everyone hates!!!

Makes me feel a bit sad. I always thought it was quite nice.

Oh well....

Has anyone else done this?

Also can people stop posting about their names and not saying what they are as I'm far too nosey Grin Name change is a thing for a reason, you won't be outed!

LunaMuna · 09/01/2019 15:18

My name is Madeleine but only ever been known as Maddie. All baby name threads say Maddie is fine for a baby but NEVER for an adult! They will NEVER be taken seriously! Awkward.. I am an adult Blush

cricketmum84 · 09/01/2019 15:12

Ok so I just found the baby name finder this is fun!!

Most people when they think of my name think of gingham, country music and meadows 😂 I'm most likely to be a Boden wearing Reiki Healer who shops at Fortnum and mason. Love it.
I'm an office manager who can usually be found in the tat aisles at Aldi!

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 09/01/2019 14:31

Mine is suggested on the more 'out there' threads. No one has ever said they hate it which is weird because I do!

uncoolnn · 09/01/2019 14:04

Well according to the Mumsnet baby name finder, I am likely to wear dolce and gabanna and shop at Waitrose. My favourite biscuits are choco Leibniz and party rings Grin

Derekmorganwasinmybed · 09/01/2019 13:45

I can’t ever remember my name being mentioned,it’s just a boring name but I’ve never met anyone with the same name apart from a few celebrities

Amazonian27 · 09/01/2019 13:36

I hadn’t until now but I am very glad I did as was very pleasantly surprised as the vast majority of posters were very complimentary about my name.

SemperIdem · 09/01/2019 13:31

Celledora, we share a name!

MN consensus seems to be it is very dated, a bit low class too.

My daughters name on the other hand, seems universally loved on here.

umpteennamechanges · 09/01/2019 13:26

Apparently when people think of Sarah they think of 'bubbly cheerful girls, intelligence, beautiful blonde ladies, goths and dull parents' Grin

umpteennamechanges · 09/01/2019 13:22

I have the ultimate 80s 'meh' name and middle name combo.

It's so common I don't even have to bother about it outing me Grin

Sarah Jane

umpteennamechanges · 09/01/2019 13:16

Oh...just seen it's Cheryl Blush

umpteennamechanges · 09/01/2019 13:16

I only know one Meryl and she was super glam although could be a bit of a bitch so they're not all rotted of teeth Grin

GirlDownUnder · 09/01/2019 13:15

NoMoreMarbles · 09/01/2019 12:57

@Timmytoo I'm intrigued Grin

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 09/01/2019 10:01

@WoodBurnerBabe My name is very similar to that and yes it sets the damn thing off!

needtogiveitablow · 09/01/2019 08:06

Mine is generally classic and underused, old fashioned in the US, overused in the 80’s in the UK or just boring and ordinary with long brown hair (I am I suppose). Could be worse!

CharlyAngelic · 09/01/2019 08:04

I went to the home page , something about baby names at the bottom.

ZigZagZombie · 09/01/2019 08:03

What a lovely thread - I particularly like the fact OP's best friend found her here. Grin

My legal name seems adored "classic, elegant, posh" - however I'd only use that form to answer my name in court.

The various diminutives have mixed responses "chavvy, ugly, masculine, ugh".

Fwiw - I'd have died and gone to heaven if I were a Cheryl - back in the 80s it seemed so glamorous - I've not run into one for years though.

jessstan2 · 09/01/2019 08:02

Where do you do that? I'm interested to see if my name comes up about anything.

CharlyAngelic · 09/01/2019 08:01

I love the name Cheryl .
My name means world leader but I shop at George@Asda.
Ps . I am NOT David Cameron

vinegarqueen · 09/01/2019 08:00

I like Cheryl! My extremely middle-class name is classic but overused, and you can't walk down the street without tripping over one of us, according to MN!

Onascaleof1tolovelywalks · 09/01/2019 07:55

No, neither of those 🤣

UnderMajorDomoMinor · 09/01/2019 07:51

@youaremyrain and @Onascaleof1tolovelywalks

Not Petra...or Fido!

abcdema · 09/01/2019 07:49

@WoodBurnerBabe hi Alexa 👋

MeYouWye · 09/01/2019 07:30

OP. I was reading the about the New Year's Honours list, there is a lady called Cheryl that has been awarded of those. She founded a charity called Remember My Baby which helps families who have lost babies all over the UK.
So be inspired by that and ignore the baby name threads. Star
