So out of curiosity I searched my own name in the mumsnet search function to see what opinions are on my name as a ‘baby name’.

Turns out I have a very very horrible name that everyone hates!!!

Makes me feel a bit sad. I always thought it was quite nice.

Oh well....

Has anyone else done this?

According to this site, my last name (which is what I go by 90% of the time) doubles as a "chavvy boy's name"! Grin

toffee1000 · 22/01/2019 04:47

My name is usually pretty well liked. My brother’s name is usually derided as a dog’s name, which I always find bizarre as most dogs these days seem to be given human names eg Max, Bella, Charlie etc.
My mother’s name was not well-known when she was born, but now it’s very popular!

Aw @FuzzAldrin I think that's the SATC effect!!

FuzzAldrin · 16/01/2019 21:47

I'm Samantha

I'm usually a bitch or a slag Grin

@cavycavy oh thank you Smile it's just picking DD first name that'll be the challenge lol

cavycavy · 16/01/2019 17:33

Nobody has ever suggested my name or my ds.

JugheadismyHero · 14/01/2019 17:14

@WoodBurnerBabe snap!!

akaWisey · 14/01/2019 17:01

Mine is a name you'd choose if you wanted a 'plain' name, apparently, which surprised me!

HugoBearsMummy · 14/01/2019 16:53

My Mum's name is Cheryl, and will be DD middle name when she makes her appearance- it's a win from me OP! X

ILoveDaveGrohl · 14/01/2019 16:53

Mine comes up as boring and people particularly hate my spelling of it.

Justus22 · 14/01/2019 16:48

I love the name Cheryl. I think of it as a pretty person's name (probably because of Cheryl Tweedy lol) and it's not at all common or bland. I have a top of the baby name list for most of the 80s name (you can prob guess from that) and I know around 30 that share it with me personally 😂. I'd much rather be a Cheryl x

abiirthdaycake · 14/01/2019 13:04

The most interesting result for mine (a relatively common Irish one) is a thread we affectionately refer to as gate - I don't want to outright say it lest I become more Googleable, I can't remember if I've actually said my name in a post before. That thread is mostly Irish MNers trying to explain to OP why she can't just take an Irish name and pronounce it completely differently but still claim it to be the same name, and OP doubling down and implying that Scottish people pronounce "Loch" as "Losh", from what I remember. Tensions were high.

Other than that it seems to come up in other threads every so often, usually as a suggestion, and I see it suggested with a totally incorrect pronunciation far too much. It seems generally well-liked though, when pronounced correctly, so that's good. Though I saw one person refer to it as "guttural", but they're not really wrong.

HayleyHaystack · 12/01/2019 22:41

Omg I just did this. Hilarious. The MN community hates my name! (It’s not my username)
It’s very old fashioned so fair enough. I have a love hate relationship with it anyway. Oh well! sobs into pilllow 🤣🤣

TidyDancer · 12/01/2019 14:41

MN loves my name. I wouldn't care if everyone hated it though. I love it and that's all that matters.

icannotremember · 11/01/2019 14:24

MN seems to approve of my name these days. However, had MN been around in the late 80s/ early 90s when seemingly every fifth girl at school had my name, I think the opinion of it would have been different...

BlancheM · 11/01/2019 14:18

My name is similar to yours OP and I've always hated it (no offence, I'd much rather your name). I don't know what the hell my parents were thinking.

DammitOedipus · 11/01/2019 14:03

Apparently my name is very American and conjures an image of a high school cheerleader.

Josico58 · 11/01/2019 12:51

how do you search? I tried searching via the search box top right but this just searched the whole of Mumsnet and the actual web.

How do you search just the Baby Names chat?

KitKatCHA · 11/01/2019 12:20

Yes, Louise! Every one I meet is all around the same age as me!

cricketmum84 · 11/01/2019 12:04

@KitKatCHA Louise?

YepImafraidIchangeditagain · 11/01/2019 11:04

@KitKatCHA Jane? Ann?

KitKatCHA · 11/01/2019 10:59

@Bishalisha nope!

Bishalisha · 11/01/2019 10:48

@kitkatCHA Marie?
