Juliet or Frances?
I like Juliet husband likes frances. We can't choose between x

Juliet. I like Frances but I met a Frances in London after living up north all my life and couldn't get over that southerners pronounce is 'Frarnces'. Just sounds jarring to me.

I'm not fond of the name Frances but I love Frankie for a girl what about Francesca it's much prettier.

Juliet is a bit try hard and obvious, and I think she would need to grow up to be very girly. Frances is so elegant.

I love both Juliet and Frances. For the short forms I would choose Frances, but either would be great. Frances Juliet and Juliet Frances both work well too.

I prefer Juliet, as long as it's pronounced as Mike says, ie not Juli-ETTE.

Juliet is pronounced with the stress on the first syllable, so JOO-liet, or JOOL-yut. It's so much nicer than Juliette, IMO.

Frances is OK too, but Juliet is just beautiful.

If I had to pick one of those I would say Juliet, but I think Julia is a more beautiful name.

For the simple fact that now there are a lot of confused people about how we're supposed to be saying Juliet, I say go for Frances. It's a lovely simple, beautiful name with a good choice of nick names.

Frances is my favourite of the two, although Juliet is nice too.

I agree with Mike regarding pronunciation.

I think if emphasising the last syllable, it should be spelt Juliette.

Juliet is pretty, classic and underused. How about trying Lia as a sort of nn if you want to avoid Jules or Jude?

Frances is ok, but a bit leaden in comparison. The possible male female comparison would put me off ( same with Lesley/ Leslie and to me is from same era). You'd also have two pronunciations going on - Northern and Southern versions. Surely that will convince your DH ( at least to shunt it to the middle name!)

I don't mind Frances though, it's a relative's name. She's never been abbreviated or nicknamed that I know of though. Smile
