Please help. We’re tied on our final two baby girl names & have 3 days until she’s registered. Which do you prefer?

I have an 11 yr old niece called Verity, Vee for short. I thinks it's a lovely name.

MikeUniformMike · 02/01/2019 14:17

Anya. I find Verity a bit too virtue-name and it sounds like Ferrety .

GraceMarks · 02/01/2019 13:57

ApolloandDaphne Americans tend to pronounce Anna as Arrna, so can only assume they do the same thing with Anya. If there was a significant chance of that happening, it would probably nudge me away from choosing that name personally.

ApolloandDaphne · 02/01/2019 13:47

Where are people getting Anya pronounced with an r in it? How weird. Anya is lovely and so is Verity.

pinkpanther84 · 02/01/2019 13:33

Love both Smile

PippilottaLongstocking · 02/01/2019 13:19

Anya, I’ve never met a nice Verity

Historydweeb · 02/01/2019 13:17

Definitely Anya

Jettycinth · 02/01/2019 13:15

Anya!

Africa2004 · 02/01/2019 13:11

Haha, you have helped as I can see both are well liked names (even if people tend not to like both).
I’m not at all concerned about the ferrety link, I actually think it’s kind of cute & not the worst link a name can have!
I’m more in the Anya camp tbh (but slightly put off that two people asked me yesterday if it would be pronounced Arn-ya??) But OH prefers Verity, think we’ll make a snap decision in registry office😳

Africa2004 so basically, we haven't helped at all! It sounds like your surname would go fine with either name, so perhaps it will depend on whether you are concerned about the "ferrety" link that pp have mentioned. Have you developed a preference since your OP?

BifsWif · 02/01/2019 11:35

Anya is Russian for Anna, is it not? I wanted it for my DD but I had a vile family member called Anna so I just couldn’t!

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 02/01/2019 01:26

Definitely Anya, it’s beautiful. Congratulations OP

saffkey1 · 01/01/2019 09:54

Great choice @BradleyPooper

BradleyPooper · 01/01/2019 04:57

@saffkey1, I have a 10 year old Verity, also called Vee..

Astronica · 01/01/2019 04:25

Although I don't mind Verity, I think Anya is just so beautiful and stylish, so Anya for me.

SqueakyPigs · 01/01/2019 01:34

Really really dislike Anya, probably because the one I knew was awful. I love Verity, such a gorgeous name

Picknickers · 01/01/2019 01:31

Another one in the ferrety camp I'm afraid. Anya is lovely.

Crimbobimbo · 31/12/2018 21:38

Verity

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 31/12/2018 21:34

Anya.

Honeybee79 · 31/12/2018 21:25

Anya though both nice.

Sophronia · 31/12/2018 21:23

Anya. I also think Verity sounds like “ferrety” Grin

ZebraKid71 · 31/12/2018 20:09

Much prefer Anya. Verity sounds too much like ferrets in my head and the two I know get called Vez for short which I think is awful. With 3 syllable names they will get shortened by school friends at some point so it's a big consideration for me when picking names.

Africa2004 · 31/12/2018 18:38

Aah, so it’s about 50:50 then?😂. Surname begins with a c, 2 syllable & quite normal, I think either name would be okay with it.
Thanks everyone

Verity

Cbeebiesrehab · 31/12/2018 16:54

Anya as I love the nn Annie too!
I know two Veritys and they both go by Vez which puts me off.
