Is Evelina classic enough?

I'm all about traditional names (Harriet, Florence, Alice etc) but i've fallen in love with Evelina, I just know know if it classic enough?

What are your opinions?

I’ve never heard of the hospital so wouldn’t think of that - I live in the south - it’s pretty but it makes me think of a Eastern European version of Evelyn....like an English baby wouldn’t pull it off.

It is in Scandinavia.

Several Evelinas in my family. All Swedish.

It's the name we have so far chosen for DD2 when she arrives, we live quite a long way from the hospital so not much association with that around here.

It was actually after the novel that we found the name, I think it's beautiful. It was Evelyn at first but I didn't like the 'Lyn' bit.

I think it's hit and miss weather people like names nor not- not everyone will agree, but then that's a good thing or our children would all have similar names!

It's a very common name in Sweden, not sure if that helps you. Grin I love it and assume the hospital was named as after a person so wouldn't necessarily see that as a reason not to use it but if I suppose if it's a rare name near you and people have only heard of the hospital that might be off putting

I instantly thought of the hospital too, although I work with children who use its services. I do think many people will think of the hospital to be honest, and they might not be a positive association.

Evalina has been around since the Georgian era. About as classic as it gets. It’s the title of one of by favourite novels actually. It’s a great book. Evalina by Frances Burney

I think of the hospital, as would many Londoners I expect.

I doubt that association would be as strong away from the SE.

I have an ancestor called Evelina from the 1800s. I think it’s a lovely name. Just bear in mind that it may be shortened to Eve/Evie etc. Lovely nicknames, but also very popular, which may or may not matter to you.

It makes me think of the novel by Fanny Burney, so certainly a classic name, but not really traditional.

Never heard of it. Sounds made up. What about Evangelina/Evangeline instead?

I think of the hospital too - which of course was named after somebody. But I don't think it's a particularly classic name. I've never heard of it in relation to anybody else.

I like it. I know an Ewelina and she is lovely so perhaps biased but I think it's timeless.
