Roux (French)- boy

I'm looking for thoughts on the name Roux ---pronounced row. My great uncle has this middle name and we are looking for something that shows our French Heritage.

Do people just think of roux sauce? Like it/hate it?

It also means red head in French. That was French DH's first reaction. Will his brother be call Brun or Blond?

My point was just that Ru and Paul aren't separate.. So Ru is just his nickname. Not really sure what you were trying to say!

I agree, definitely it's a surname, and it's not like calling your child Taylor or something, it doesn't work ever as a first name, it's like naming your child Baker or something. It's not even really pronounced Roo, the way French people pronounce ou isn't really a sound we can say easily in English. So I would say don't use it. There are lots of nice French boys names out there.

Maybe Cosmoa but according to wikipedia He was named by his mother, Ernestine "Toni" Charles, a Louisiana native; the "Ru" came from roux, which is the term for the base of gumbo and other creole stews and soups !

Rupaul's name is spelt Rupaul, not Ru Paul!

I think Roux looks a bit faux French even if it isn't.

My first thought was a base sauce. Pronounced "roo" or possibly "roe". Dislike both as a name.

Given that you can't even pronounce it properly, you shouldn't use it as a name for your child.

As well as the start of a white sauce "roux" is French for red head (masculine). But it is pronounced Roo for both meanings.

If you were French you might get away with it but I don't think your child would thank you for it. Given you're not French I'd think again.
