How would you shorten Theodore?

Teddy or Theo?

DH and I can't agree. To go with a single syllable colour surname.

Theo works best for Theodore.

I think Theo is nicer than Teddy. I'm not keen on Teddy at all.

I thought my Theodore would be a Teddy, but somehow Theo suited him more. We still call him Bear as a nickname though, even though that doesn't make much sense. He hasn't quite mastered the 'th' yet though, so introduces himself as Feo.

Yes, my ex couldn't say Th so I had to throw Theo off my list. It's a lovely name, definitely prefer it to Teddy.

a soft "Th" becomes F in a lot of regional accents especially in the south.

I think it’s got to be Theo. Teddy is the abbreviated version of Edward I think

I know a few Greek Theodores who are called Doros, pronounced ‘Thoros’. Don’t know any Greek Theodores who are called Ted or Teddy. They are all Theo or Thoros (though the letter S is often not pronounced.)

Ted/Teddy is a very long used shortening and came about because the name was originally pronounced ‘Teodore’ and the ‘th’ came much later.

One vacuum cleaner was named "Hoover". It soon became the most natural nickname for the device.

I don't think Theodore was the first person to have his name shortened to Teddy, History serves to tell us that is quite the natural nickname for said full name.

Just because one Theodore (Roosevelt) was nicknamed Teddy doesn't make it the most natural shortening. I think Theo is much more intuitive.

BIL is Theodore. He's 20, and his name has evolved over the time I've known him from Teddy, to Ted, then Theo and now he's back to being known as Theodore.
Although close family still call him Ted.

Teddy bears get their name from Theodore Roosevelt's nickname "Teddy".

Theo. For me Edward is the more natural name to use if you want ‘Teddy’.

Teddies are two a penny round here (Including every other dog). I love Theo but if it's going to be said 'Fee-ow' by half his friends, I'd probably go for Ted.

I’d start with Theo.
Move to just O.
Move onto Odie.
End with Odie Boy Blue. 🙂

Ours is Theo because it’s what DH wanted to call him originally. I like all it’s shortened forms though.

German Teddies 🐻?
