Scout

Me and DH were playing around on the Kinder app and one of our few matches was Scout. DH had never even considered it and the more he thinks about it the more he loves it. I feel like hormones have made me slightly insane around names.

So what does the mumsnet jury think?

Love it and have it on my list - we’re having a boy which I think would make it more difficult to get away with but I say go for it!

FartnissEverbeans · 18/12/2018 23:36

I actually love it and taught a teenage Scout a few years back. It was awesome on her and that’s why I like it so much.

However, it kind of screams ‘I did GCSE English!’. Also - I don’t like the book. I have the same problems with Atticus.

SnowyPaws5 · 18/12/2018 23:21

Horrible. I would hate to be called Scout.

ForAMinuteThere · 18/12/2018 22:46

Bruce Willis.

I love it.

sophisticatedsarcasm · 18/12/2018 22:40

@chloejean, why did it matter if your Mum didn’t like it. My Nan didn’t like my DS name but I didn’t care, as long as you like it that’s all that matters

sophisticatedsarcasm · 18/12/2018 22:36

It’s my daughters middle name, we all love it 😊

whatwouldkatyactuallydonext · 18/12/2018 12:51

It's my dd's middle name so I love it! Grin

bookworm14 · 18/12/2018 12:42

Awful, sorry. The character wasn’t even really called Scout, it was a nickname.

MsTSwift · 18/12/2018 12:39

Are you pregnant? I came up with some corkers mid pregnancy which dh also liked (he had no excuse). I look at our careful thoughtful 12 year old and am so relieved I came to my senses.

Scout is proper daft sorry.

A good test is whether you would like that name yourself. Imagine introducing yourself to new work colleagues as “Scout” because there’s your answer,

Chloejean · 18/12/2018 01:28

It is such an adorable name!! Wanted to name my daughter it but my mum didn’t like it Sad

Thetigerwhocameto · 18/12/2018 00:34

Would Scott not work then?

thismeansnothing · 16/12/2018 21:35

Wow didn't expect that many responses 😳
I'm not totally in love with it, but don't hate it. I'll just not mention it to DH and see if he still remembers come Feb 🤣

Not keen

makeanewname13 · 16/12/2018 21:02

Love love love it!

AlwaysSomethingThere · 16/12/2018 19:07

It's nice... for a Jack Russell

Aquilla · 16/12/2018 19:04

Cute that the OP didn't realise that the Willis' were first to make Scout cool. Well, them and Harper Lee of course.
Feeling really old!

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 16/12/2018 18:58

Love it.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 16/12/2018 18:57

Sounds like a dogs name

DaffydownClock · 16/12/2018 18:56

Yes, with siblings called Master, Hut or Brownie 😳🙄

greyspottedgoose · 16/12/2018 18:53

I love it!

blueskiesandforests · 16/12/2018 18:46

MrsFoxPlus4 you wouldn't know unless you saw their birth certificate or they told you though. Quite a number of people go by a middle name or a nickname or less often go as far as to change their name by deed poll.

I agree Scout ist a nickname for the sibling of Guide, Brownie and Cub...

Yohooo · 16/12/2018 18:40

I'm not keen either. I think it's a harsh sound especially for a girl.

It's not a terrible name though and I'm sure if I knew a Scout I would get used to it quickly.

Pemba · 16/12/2018 18:32

Awful for a boy, worse for a girl. Suitable for a nickname only.

MikeUniformMike · 16/12/2018 18:25

Not sure. Better as a nn.

TheBhagwan · 16/12/2018 18:01

I think it is pretentious but maybe that’s bc I’m American and my first thought was to kill a mockingbird. I don’t know if that book is as significant here but many if not most Americans would relate it to the name scout.
