For both boy or girl. I know it seems to be more popular for girls but I think it sounds unisex

Was also going to ask how you are pronouncing. The Gaelic is pronounced Al-uh-puh - there's a Runrig song called this if you want to look on YouTube. I don't think it makes for a good name really. But it's your choice.

I live in Spain. Alba is a girls name, and a very popular one, there are always at least 2-3 in every class.

In my opinion it is too much for a Scottish child growing up in Scotland, to call them Scotland. Is the father Alex Salmond?! Smile I think it would be different if you lived in another country and had some distant Scottish heritage. However, generally I prefer names to be established as names, to reduce the chance that it will not date well.

How are you saying it though the Garlic pronunciation makes it sound like it has more letters in it more ah-luh-buh than just Alba which is how I suspect a lot of people are pronouncing it in their head.

Alba is a very popular girl's name in Spain. It means dawn.

I really like it. Would work well in English speaking countries as it is spelled as it's pronounced.

Every second girl in Spain is called Alba, extremely common here. You would be laughed out of town if you were a boy called Alba!

But only matters if you or they, ever live in Spain/work with Spaniards I suppose.

I'm Scottish and it just makes me think of cassette players and the welcome signs at Edinburgh airport.

I'd certainly assume it was a girl's name.

I think Gareth Bales (ex Spurs) now Real Madrid's eldest DD is called Alba , so I've always thought of it as a (Welsh) girls name.

Hey OP! My DD was born in Scotland and I was so keen to have a Scottish name for her. DP wasn't so keen, but we compromised for a middle name. I loved the name Alba. In the end, sadly, we didn't go for it.
One word of caution though, even though people supported my choice of Alba, I found out loads of people actually didn't like it and associated it with the electronics, and a fair few of my Scottish friends didn't like it because it reminded them of BBC Alba thus the name of a tv channel and they didn't find it a baby name.

Personally, I still love it. I love it's various meanings too. Harris is a great name too and Harris and Alba seem nice together.

I know a little one year old Alba! She's the only one I know, I think it's lovely. I live in Scotland where there is a sea of little Eilidh and Isla's and I think Alba is just that bit different.

I am Scottish and I prefer scottish names. My ds is called Harris so I don't want another island name. I don't know the electronics company folk are talking about tbh

I’m not sure. I don’t think it sounds nice to say. I like the meaning, but what are you saying? That your dd is Scotland? And yes, I thought of my 80s cassette player too...
