Torn with these two names

EJB20 · 11/12/2018 02:07

My DH and I are expecting DD in about 4 weeks and I’m torn between the two names, he likes both so is no help 😫😫
Adelaide Grace or Ellis James
I know Ellis is traditionally a boys name but I knew a girl called Ellis and she was just the most beautiful person and James is after my brother I didn’t like Jamie and I’m not concerned about it being feminine.
But I genuinely love Adelaide Grace as it’s not very common but I worry about it being too out there to be considered sensible!
TIA

Adelaide Grace

ohhelpohnoitsa · 12/12/2018 21:18

Ellis Grace though, not James.

ohhelpohnoitsa · 12/12/2018 21:17

Ellis

Elizabethhh · 12/12/2018 20:58

Much prefer Adelaide Grace, Adelaide is lovely! I also think Adelaide James is very nice as James’ masculinity is balanced with Adelaide's Femininity

diamondofdoom · 12/12/2018 20:49

Adalaide is lovely

Gobletoffire · 12/12/2018 20:44

Ellis James is a lovely name, but I wouldn’t personally use it for a girl. I do know girls called Ellis but with the middle name it’s too much. You might like it but she may not when she’s older. I would go for Ellis as a first name with a more feminine middle name, or if you still want James as a middle name then go for a more feminine first name rather than a unisex one x

Heratnumber7 · 12/12/2018 17:50

Ellis James for a girl? Hmm

neddle · 12/12/2018 17:47

My youngest has Adelaide as her middle name and everyone who hears it, loves it.
Queen Adelaide was Queen Victoria’s aunt.

FamilyOfAliens · 12/12/2018 17:45

Using not one but two boys names (so she won’t even be able to go by her middle name if she gets fed up with everyone assuming she’s a boy) smacks of someone trying a little too hard.

Flamingosnbears · 12/12/2018 17:40

Adelaide Grace

Narya · 12/12/2018 17:12

Agree with pp that giving your daughter not one but two boy names is pushing it a bit far. So Adelaide Grace for me, it's a nice combo

starkid · 12/12/2018 17:08

Definitely Adelaide Grace. I wouldn't give your daughter 2 traditionally male names.

Adelaide is beautiful and goes really well with Grace.

TokenGinger · 12/12/2018 12:04

Adelaide Grace is lovely.

I think it's really unfair to give a girl two masculine names so Ellis James is a big no from me. Anybody reading her name on application forms etc in the future will assume she's a boy.

Adelaide Ellis or Adelaide James is nice, but not two masculine names together.

Picknickers · 12/12/2018 00:21

Adelaide Elise for me personally. Don't like this trend of giving girls boys names. There'll be no boys names left!

Sophronia · 11/12/2018 16:46

Please go with Adelaide Grace!

BertrandRussell · 11/12/2018 12:56

Suzie- so Adelaide Grace for a boy, yes?

SuzieBishop · 11/12/2018 12:44

Ellis James!!! It's absolutely gorgeous! It's definitley not a boys name in as much as Colin is - you can 100% get away with it for a girl.

Bigonesmallone3 · 11/12/2018 11:52

Ellis does work as a girls name but paired with James is just a boys name..

I much prefer the other name

ZebraKid71 · 11/12/2018 11:46

Adelaide James gets my vote.

I love Adelaide but Grace is a bit meh.

stellarfox · 11/12/2018 11:33

Definitely Adelaide. I do think Ellis is more masculine, but if you have another baby girl or boy you could consider Ellis for either, whereas if you don’t have another girl and used Ellis you might not get to use Adelaide at all!

hoki · 11/12/2018 11:25

Of you call her adelaide (like the city in Australia?) she'll be called Addy. Or maybe if you combine Adelaide James she could be called AJ which to me is definitely a boys name but if she's really cool she could pull it off. I know a little girl called Ellis and while I like it she gets called Alice all the time.

trinitybleu · 11/12/2018 11:25

Adelaide Ellis James sounds lovely to me

Marcipex · 11/12/2018 11:23

Ellis is okay, and she'll almost definitely be called Ellie once she's at school.
James is stupid for a girl. Just don't.

Buddyelf · 11/12/2018 11:19

Oh I actually really like Ellis James for a girl and I'm normally a bit boring with names. My name is pretty boring and I wasn't very adventurous with my own DD's names but this I like.

ladybee28 · 11/12/2018 11:12

Adelaide Grace - it's got a lovely, storybook, Little House On The Prairie feel to it.

I like the rhythm of the shortened "Adie Grace", too.

Does remind me a little of the Atwood novel "Alias Grace", which is pretty dark and murdery, but I think that's kinda cool, too Grin
