Is Genevieve just too much??

I've always had such a soft spot for the name Genevieve, however, after mentioning to friends and family we've had such negative feedback.

What are your thoughts? :)

Absolutely beautiful, but I do feel sorry for reception kids with long names. She’ll envy any Amys she sits near!

I had a discussion with a French friend about this name and she thought it sounded very old-fashioned while I loved it!

I actually prefer the French pronunciation too, but both are very nice. I think it's very under-used here in the UK. Go for it!

Ignore GrumpyOlderBloke Grin! It’s a delightful name and also one of the loveliest films (and Darracqs) ever made. If we’d had another DD I’d have pushed for Genevieve (or Rosalind for that matter - fans of the film will know what I mean)

Guinevere just reminds me of the youngest (male) child of The Modern Parents (Viz) so I'm vetoing it based on that Grin

I would like this but I know that I don’t pronounce it the correct French way. I was speaking to a woman who was thinking of calling her new baby it and she kept correcting me (I really wasn’t being an arse - I just couldn’t hear the difference between the way we said it) and she ended up getting a bit cross I think.

If you are going to live in England, it’s likely to get pronounced the way I say it.

It's lovely and was on our list 20 plus years ago. Would have used it but for our 17 letter surname! Also love Ophelia which I think is a similar genre.

I like it. Only ever met one girl by the name when I was a girl guide about 22 years ago ish.
She was very confident and chatty.

I loved it. Sentimental name wanted it for one of my twins but my husband was against it. So it’s a middle name I love it :)

I don't think it's too much at all, I know quite a few Genevieves. Lots of good potential nicknames too.

I don't like it and to me it does seem OTT. Just down to personal taste though, and it does seem reasonably popular these days.
