I've just seen this suggested on another thread and wondered what the consensus is? Blos/Blossy for short?

And like I said, I saw a 70+ year old with the name originally. So not ridiculous at all.

I agree it doesn't need to be shortened. I just think names like Sarah, Katie, Hannah etc are so incredibly boring. t the end of the day it's each to their own isn't it but I can say, as a family of very unusual names non of us have ever had any problems Wink

I dont mind it for a person but is more of an animal name. Dont like the nicknames though.

To be honest, there's no logical reason why names like Flora or Fleur are OK, in fact, positively classic and traditional, and Blossom isn't. Is it just a bit too Old English and not Latinate enough? Blossom isn't my cup of tea, but I've heard much worse names suggested. Blos/Blossy are horrid, though.

Blossom would be ridiculous on an adult (you're naming a person, not a baby) and bloss/blossy are hideous tbh

Because of the trend for cutesy ditzy Uber girlie names that’s why. Which seem frankly ridiculous on portly 50 somethings. Sorry but they do.

You grow with your name and it's all that is known. My siblings, child and myself all have incredibly unusual name and it's never once been a problem. Never been bullied at school either funnily enough 🙄

This was going to be my babies name if a girl (he wasn't) 4 years ago. I still love it but I do t think I'd choose it now, and I wouldn't have shortened it.

I was going to choose it because my Nan was in a home towards the end and her friend lived in the next room and was called Blossom, it always cheered me up when I saw it above her door Thanks

I know two wee girls called Blossom and Breeze. Whilst both are unusual I prefer Breeze, Blossom seems a bit twee

One of the PE teachers when I was at school used to call us all Blossom as she couldn't be bothered to learn our names. It's hard for me to see it as a real person's real name after that

I don’t think it’s particuarlly embarrassing- I wouldn’t like as a grown woman to say
“Hi I’m Rosie and this is my boyfriend Arthur”...but plenty will in 20years time

Would you as an adult woman like to be called Blossom? Imagine meeting a new group through work and introducing yourself as “Blossom your surname”. There’s your answer...
