Is this a boy or girls name?

Ellis. I know it is unisex but would you think more of a boy or girl if you heard this name?

Both. I know an American Ellis who is female.

It is objectively a boy's name. A tiny minority of Ellises are girls.

OK so it’s a traditional Welsh (amongst others) name that has a feminine sound to it. It’s not like calling your daughter Dave is my point.

Completely a girls name to me! I don't know any boys names Ellis but it's my sisters name and I know a baby girl called Ellis also ❤️

It's overwhelmingly a boy's name. Only 100 or so girls a year.

Why do people think it's OK to give girl's boy's names when they would' dream of doing the other way round?

Also makes me think of Emily Bronte. I assume it's usually a boy, but I would want to check as it could be either.

I know a young girl of 17 called Ellis - but I like it for a girl or boy.
