Joannie or Joni?

I'm not even pregnant yet (well, I might be, Ive just had IVF and I'm in the dreaded 2-week wait) but I've always wanted to call any daughter I had after my grandmother, Joan, as she was the loveliest soul that ever walked the earth.

Is Joannie old-fashioned though? Would Joni be better?

adayatthebeach · 27/04/2019 18:17

DramaAlpaca · 27/04/2019 18:09

Joanie is lovely. I would say Joni at John-ee though.

Just spotted this post in my old threads and thought it might be nice to come on and update - that cycle of IVF didn't work, but the next did (my 4th!) and I'll be 5 weeks pregnant tomorrow (Saturday)!

It's too early to take anything for granted - we've been here before and sadly it didn't last - but I'm hoping this is our baby. And I'm fairly certain that if we get our girl, she will be named Joanie, and quite possibly Jonah for a boy, so thank you for all the thoughts and opinions!

I'm TTC and Joni is on my mental list (I haven't broached names with DH yet!)

CryingMessFFS · 27/11/2018 09:25

Joanie

RedDwarves · 27/11/2018 09:24

I prefer Joni, but I would use Joanie if it's closer to your grandma's name.

OutPinked · 27/11/2018 09:18

I like Joni.

justforareply · 27/11/2018 08:29

I love Joni
DH said no 😪

GraceMarks · 27/11/2018 08:24

I can see Myrtle having a comeback but not sure about Doreen or Barbara... I think we're currently on a revival of names popular in the 1910s and 20s, and Maureen and Barbara are more from the 40s and 50s. Give it another couple of decades and who knows?

TenThousandSpoons · 27/11/2018 08:16

I know a Jonas who would’ve been Joni if a girl. Maybe Jonah then if S surname doesn’t go.

RedPandaFluff · 27/11/2018 08:06

Ooooo Jonas is nice, @TenThousandSpoons . . . not sure if it works with my surname, though, as it begins with 'S'.

@GraceMarks I've wondered that about a lot of names, Maureen included! Names like Myrtle, Doreen, Barbara . . .

Jonas if you have a boy Smile
Hope you get your BFP soon 🤞

Polkasq · 26/11/2018 16:23

I like the Joanie spelling.

Joni is too similar to Yoni Blush

Sandbox · 26/11/2018 16:01

I read Joannie as jo-annie, I think because it’s so close to Joanne
