Am I cruel?

I love the names
Tabitha
Isadora
Genevieve
Maisie

Mentioned these to my friend and she said I'm cruel lol do you think a girl with these names would be bullied? What kind of girl springs to mind with these names?

I work in a child-related field and we have all of those names on our registers at least once, the children are between baby age up to 10 years old. Only one Isadora.

Also outside of work know two adult Genevieve’s, an 18 year old Maisie, a Tabitha in her thirties plus a friends dog is a called Tabitha.

Your friend is being a bit weird. None of these names are unusual in my opinion! It would be more unusual these days to call a child Louise, Clare or Sarah I reckon!

I love Tabitha. Genevieve is pretty too. Can't stand Isadora - reminds me of that annoying kids programme from years ago!

Don't care for Maisie.

But Tabitha is a pretty common name for female humans — it’s no more a ‘cat’s name’ than Felix, which is also quite common. And I know of local dogs around here called Poppy, Toby, Rufus, and Belle, which are certainly at least as human as canine names.

Tabitha is my favourite name. Genevieve is nice, but you will get a lot of misspellings/pronunciations. I like Isadora, but think it'll become Izzy, along with the multitude of Isabel/Isabellas. I know quite a few Maisies, but it's not a name I like.

I do agree that you’d never get anyone to use the French prn of Genevieve in the UK, unless you happen to actually be French.

Similarly I prefer the Germanic pronunciation of the very popular Ottilie. Mostly because it doesn’t sound like “utterly”.

Not a huge fan of Maisie, taught loads of maisies, macys, maicies.

Don't mind Genevieve though am a pretentious fan of the French pronunciation.
I know a beautiful teenage isadora. Dora to family, iz to friends.

I dont think you are cruel. Your friend just didnt have the same taste in names as you. (and its your baby, so your choice).
I really love Genevieve - my favourite on your list
Tabitha isnt to my taste
Isadora is nice (Izzy for short)
Maisie - ok name

In dgs class there's a Millie and a Maisie. I also know a Marcey, so Maisie and it's variations are quite popular.

Not keen on Maisie, sounds like a parlour maid in Edwardian England. Isadora is a beautiful name.

I like the first three, especially Tabitha and Genevieve, but not keen on Maisie. I meet lots of little Maisies and I find it a bit cutesy.

Fave I think is Genevieve!

I really don't like tabitha as it is a cat's name to me. I like cats very much but it would be like calling a baby fido. (Felix is borderline because I've known a couple of real life Felixes...)

The others are fine. I've known a Geniveve who was my age and went by Geni (Jenny) and a little one aged six who goes by Evie. Maisie and Isadora are defo granny chic but that's OK as names do follow cycles like that.

I think Geniveve is my favourite though.

I think they're all ok... but I wonder if they will suit adults as well as cute little girls? My friend's called her dd Maisie and I always wonder how she'll feel about her name when she's 18 and introducing herself to some hot boy in a club Grin

Tabitha is prob at my favourite as well but guessing tabby would result in teasing. I seem to like either quirky names or frilly names 🤣 x

I like the first three but Maisie is totally different and not my cup of tea at all.

Genevieve was on our list for DD but we didn’t use it because we couldn’t agree how to pronounce it. I would have used the anglicised version as I think it sounds a bit pretentious to use the French one if you’re not French (we are not). We went for Jennifer instead

What is the alternative prononciation of Genevieve then? I only know it as a French name; jun-nav-yev (sorry for execrable phonetics)
