Georgie - which long name?

Nacmonalds · 12/11/2018 14:44

We’ve decided on Georgie for dd2 and are now trying to decide which long name to use on the birth certificate (please no lectures about not giving your child a name you’re not going to call them by, it’s what we want to do and what we’ve decided on).

I really dislike Georgina - I just hate the ‘Gina’ part of it.

So that leaves us with Georgia and Georgiana. We both instinctively prefer Georgiana, but we’re wondering if others would consider it a little pretentious?

If it’s relevant, our dd1 is called Victoria, nn Vika (the Russian shortening as dh is half Russian and we both hate Vicky and Torie!)

Georgiana is lovely & much nicer than Georgia.

raindancemumma · 12/11/2018 20:12

Georgiana is a lovely name.

FitBitHelp · 12/11/2018 20:08

And I 100% agree with this:

If I think of you chose Georgiana, your DD will have a lifetime of people mistakenly calling her or spelling her name Georgina, so be prepared for all the corrections...

DD has even been mistaken for Georgina but I reckon you'd get it far more with Georgiana.

FitBitHelp · 12/11/2018 20:06

To all those saying Georgia is very unlikely to be "shortened" to Georgie. I have a Georgia who is often called Georgie and actually calls herself Georgie too. It wasn't intended but it's happened over the 2 years since we named her.

SardineJam · 12/11/2018 20:03

Georgette is lovely!

Georgianna- never heard of that before, it's loved and actually much prefer it to Georgia which was always one of my faves. Georgie is an adorable name, love it

3out · 12/11/2018 19:48

Agree, how about Georgette?

OlennasWimple · 12/11/2018 19:44

Georgiana - unless you have a long or complicated surname

Georgia is unlikely to get shortened to Georgie

whiteroseredrose · 12/11/2018 19:41

Love Georgiana.

ReginaPhalange89 · 12/11/2018 18:53

I prefer Georgia. I didn't know Georgiana was pronounced with an 'ar' sound , really dislike that sorry

Blahdeblah123 · 12/11/2018 18:33

Sorry, just re read your post. Dont mean to offend, but genuinely dont understand why the name on the BC cant be Georgie.

Blahdeblah123 · 12/11/2018 18:31

Why do you need to christen her anything other than Georgie? Its a beautiful name on its own. I have one and i wouldnt go for, and didnt go, for any other name on her birth certificate.
Fabulous name.

Beamur · 12/11/2018 18:27

I know a Georgiana. Lovely name.

Romanmonkey · 12/11/2018 18:26

I like both! Sorry not helpful. Smile Probably prefer Georgia.

Icklepup · 12/11/2018 18:23

Georgiana

Vi0l3t · 12/11/2018 18:18

I prefer Georgia, Georgiana is quite fussy

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 12/11/2018 18:08

If she's called Georgia she won't really go by Georgie I don't think

I know two Georgies who are both actually Georgia!
I much prefer Georgia to Georgiana, which I do think sounds a little pretentious

Georgiana - Georgie. Very nice.

(Though she might choose later to be a George, a Gigi, a Giana, or an Ana.)

Nacmonalds · 12/11/2018 16:24

How do you pronounce Georgiana?

We would be pronouncing it Georgie-arna with the biggest stress on the ‘ar’.

Georgiana is lovely

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 12/11/2018 16:12

Have you considered Georgette? I've always thought it was a beautiful, timeless name.

Georgiana is just as beautiful & timeless too though.

Ploppymoodypants · 12/11/2018 16:09

Georgiana is lovely.

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 12/11/2018 16:09

I think Georgie is not really a shortening of Georgia, so I’d go with Georgiana.
