Sweet girls names that will age well

So, I am due in a couple of weeks and DH and I cannot agree on a name :S DH likes classic names like Florence, Beatrice and Madeline. I like sweet names like Poppy, Daisy and Molly.

DH says that the names I like work well for a baby or little girl, but not so well for an adult and might restrict her career options. I can see his point but think that may not be the case in 25 years time. Whilst our debate continues, can anyone think of sweet names/names with a sweet nickname that are also classic and leave open more conservative career options?

I do like Charlotte (Charlie) but we are currently in Australia and it has been decisively #1 here for a few years now.

We’ve just appointed a Professor in an aeronautical engineering discipline with the first name Daisy. I don’t think a cute name is any barrier to a profession

Of course those names are not a barrier to anything. You don't have to like them but to suggest calling a child Daisy or Poppy is going to limit their lives in some way is just ridiculous.

They are names that have been in use for centuries. They are more popular now so you may well find in 20 years time your GP is called Molly and your solicitor is called Poppy and your dc's head teacher is called Maisie. You may still not like the names but they will be fully functioning professionals who are not "embarrassed" to introduce themselves.

Not the traditional shortening but you certainly wouldn't be the first.

Your husband has better taste in names, sorry.

They’re far less babyish.

I would be embarrassed as an adult having to introduce myself as Poppy (I think it’s an absolutely awful name) or Daisy.

My daughter is called Amelia it has loads of shorter option: Millie, Ami, Lia, Mia, also apparently Minnie Driver's name is actually Amelia - but when she was younger she couldn't say Amelia so she always said Mimi and that's kind of stuck!

I’m a fan of Beatrix (as opposed to Beatrice) shortened to Trixie, but I don’t know if that might be a little bit too sweet!

I personally would not judge a professional by their name. If I knew a Judge,, Doctor or Solicitor called Bambi, Pixie, Teddy etc, I wouldnt give two hoots, as long as they were good at their job, that is all that matters., and they would have had to pass many exams to get into these kind of professions in the first place. its not as though these people would have chosen their own names so it has no bearing on their own personal careers whatsoever.

Totally agree with what Monkey Toucher said as well.

Prefer your DH’s choices tbh. He’s naming an adult, your naming a toddler.

There are some names that I would consider halfway between the two positions -

Polly, Nancy, Honor, Nell, Briar, Violet, Rose
