What would your choice be between these two names? ;D Oh and I'd like to add, she would grow up to look pretty foreigner-ish here. She's American-born-Chinese

Mela is a name.

Mira is a shower or too close to Myra Hindley

Hisaishi · 05/11/2018 06:51

Mira means mummy (as in Egyptian mummy) in a few east Asian languages, not sure about in Chinese but we tried to avoid anything like that for our daughter.

percheron67 · 05/11/2018 01:23

Mira is a brand name for a shower.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 05/11/2018 00:44

they both sound like the brand name of the IUD I have fitted.

Kokeshi123 · 05/11/2018 00:41

Mira. But I wouldn't pick either if I wanted a name that was unusual. I know neither name has lots of people called that, but both names sound very similar to a lot of names that are common at the moment, like Amelia, Amelie, Mia, Milly....

Ginger1982 · 04/11/2018 22:54

Mia?

totallyaddicted · 04/11/2018 22:53

Mila?

BigGreenOlives · 04/11/2018 22:49

Maya - similar name - two syllables ending in a

KittyLover91 · 04/11/2018 22:45

Melia

TatianaLarina · 04/11/2018 22:33

Mei Ying
Mei Chen

daisypond · 04/11/2018 18:37

Mira.

LeeMiller · 04/11/2018 18:34

Mei and Mei-li are both much nicer than Melia or Mira (which aren't great in the UK for the reasons mentioned).

Other m names:
Melissa, May, Mirella, Mia, Maya, Mina, Minerva, Amelia, Emily, Mary, Mirabelle, Mabel, Maya.

Or if you like the meaning
of beauty/attractiveness then a name with the same meaning? Like Belle/bella...

RavenWings · 04/11/2018 16:01

Mira, no contest. As I said on the other thread Melia just blends into Amelia, which is dull as fuck.

ThrowThoseCurtainsWide · 04/11/2018 14:07

Milena?

MikeUniformMike · 04/11/2018 14:03

Mira, pron. Me-rah
Could be short for Miranda or Mirabelle.

MrsStrowman · 04/11/2018 12:50

@GoodJanet Malia, like the infamous 18-30s resort? ....

GoodJanet · 04/11/2018 11:59

Malia, like Barack Obama’s daughter.

Much nicer than Melia.

namechangeforthisposst · 04/11/2018 11:12

Hahaha yeah any name has connotations @OatsBeansBarley Mary's at school were constantly asked if they were Virgins

OatsBeansBarley · 04/11/2018 11:04

namechangeforthisposst · 04/11/2018 11:02

@OatsBeansBarley with a south London accent that is Wink

namechangeforthisposst · 04/11/2018 11:01

@OatsBeansBarley mira rhymes with killer Grin

OatsBeansBarley · 04/11/2018 11:00

I don't know the make up brand! Any more clues?

Me- Ra?

namechangeforthisposst · 04/11/2018 10:58

Mira rhymes with stila like the make up brand.

It's my name.

Myra the serial killer is pronounced differently like kyra Lyra but people will pronounce mira like Myra. Or meera. Or ask if you're Indian all your life. Or tell you excitedly they saw tie name on the shower in a hotel.

I was named it decades ago and it was unheard of then in the uk but I've met lots of little ones in the past few years.

OatsBeansBarley · 04/11/2018 10:46

Melissa
Marianne

nocluenoidea · 04/11/2018 10:39

@ItsalmostSummer how does Mira rhyme with Sarah?
