Me and my hubby are trying for our rainbow baby and I love the name sailor.

I like it too. But then, my first born’s name was roundly derided on MN. She loves her name and I’ve only heard nice things about it in real life. I’m sure it will be the same with Sailor as on MN people are rude in a way they wouldn’t be when they’re hiding behind a username.

Isn’t Liv Tyler’s child called Sailor?

To each their own but I think it’s a good name. I am personally not a fan of the top 10 names, and being a childminder in London, I don’t think I would blink twice if I heard it. Variety it the spice of life and all that 😊

To be fair, our generation might think "Hello sailor!" etc but it's unlikely to have those connotations for modern children.
In a class full of Princesses, Hunters, Foxes and Bears, it's not going to stand out much.

Baker.
Candlestick-maker.
Bin-man (or bin-woman for a girl).
Taxi-driver.
Geologist
Dinner-lady (Obviously dinner-gentleman for a boy).
Apple-genius
Customer-experience-manager.

I actually love Sailor, my DS has a little girl called Sailor in his class and I've always thought it was lovely

Really sorry for your loss op and I can understand you wanting something with a sea-faring theme because of family links.

It’s ok that your little one will be at school with children with less mainstream names but they won’t be at school forever. They will be applying for jobs, careers, they will have friends from different backgrounds and you don’t know what personality your child might have. It’s quite a ‘big’ name to carry and if a child was a quiet, timid little soul, it may be more than a burden than an asset. There will be lots of maritime related names that are easier to go around with. Marina, Athena spring to mind. I’m not keen on Sailor and I’m not of the Mia, Sophie, Oliver school of names only.

I’m sorry for your loss.
I named my “rainbow” baby a name I liked and DH also liked and that we thought wouldn’t hinder her in life, her “rainbow” status didn’t come into it. To be honest my daughter is lovely and is simply my daughter, she’s not my “rainbow” daughter and I dislike the term, although I know it brings comfort to some people to use it
Personally I think Sailor is a bit of a stripper name but it’s down to personal choice so if you like it go for it. I think it’s bloody awful ( and I have Naval personnel in my family) but if it’s a sea connection you want there are much nicer names

It is a reasonably common girls name in the US but I have only seen it spelled Saylor.
I can't say I like it though.
