Me and my hubby are trying for our rainbow baby and I love the name sailor.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Taylor22 · 04/11/2018 09:12

This post popped back up. And now I think about it there are kids who have to live with Nevaeh so I guess in the grand scheme of things it's not the worst....

Some similar names you could consider-

Tinker
Tailor
Soldier
Rich Man
Poor Man
Beggar Man
Thief

Don't suggest daft names then 🙄

pattyhoo · 04/11/2018 08:06

I think the name Sailor sounds sweet, and far nicer than 'Hunter' (might as well be called 'Killer').

Sailor reminds me of the anime Sailor Moon (group of kick-ass girls) or Nick Cage's character in Wild at Heart.

Go for it if it feels like the right name! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy too

Another2day · 04/11/2018 08:06

I don't find Sailor/Saylor any different to other common occupation names like Taylor, Mason, Tiler, Cooper etc. None would be my choice but they're not that terrible as some of you are implying!

shiveringtimber · 04/11/2018 08:03

Call the kid "Cowboy", why doncha?

CherryPavlova · 04/11/2018 08:00

Absolutely agree NotANotMan

shiveringtimber · 04/11/2018 07:57

I'm sorry for the child, being stuck with such a name. He'll be teased relentlessly, all through his life. Parents can be so selfish sometimes with these nonsensical names!

NotANotMan · 04/11/2018 07:45

I have a child who was born after I had a late miscarriage. He's not a 'rainbow' anything. He is his own person; he wasn't a replacement or a consolation prize. His name was chosen with zero reference to the previous loss.
Why do people think that having experienced a previous loss means you have to imbue the next pregnancy/baby with all this additional meaning? It's unfair and unhealthy.

PhysaliaPhysalis · 04/11/2018 07:44

Do it!

My DD is called Moscow Mule and it hasn't done her any harm.

CherryPavlova · 04/11/2018 07:37

My maternal grandfather was an undertaker - just thinking about the names our son could have ended up with.

Hezz · 04/11/2018 07:34

Please please don't let this be a joke, and please call your child Sailor Cherry

Especially if it's a boy.

Celticlassie · 04/11/2018 07:30

I love Sailor Cherry.

My next DS will be Captain. Surname Morgan.

CherryPavlova · 04/11/2018 07:30

APearOfPears- thank you - I call my youngest my miracle baby (well it’s how I think of her rather than what I call her).

Sailor is still unfortunate, at best.

APearOfPearsThatsHowIRoll · 04/11/2018 07:23

cherry google it? A rainbow baby is a child conceived after a miscarriage or stillbirth. My DD is my rainbow baby.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/11/2018 07:22

Not I think you’re comment about snobs and cunts is uncalled for. Mn represents a huge variety of people, it’s not just one united body. If the op had said she already had a child called Sailor, I wouldn’t have commented. Because it is it is and the child is here. This is a hypothetical child. That’s different imo.

You probably clicked because your sister is called Sailor. It’s a done deal from 40 years ago. One of my ds has a bit of a marmite name and I don’t click on threads anymore because I know some people don’t like it. I don’t really need to read an negativity. But it would be useful to a poster thinking of it for their ds.

At the end of the day, mn naming threads can prepare posters with what people will truthfully think about a name. If they decide to go ahead, well at least they know what to expect.

APearOfPearsThatsHowIRoll · 04/11/2018 07:22

I actually really like it for a baby/young child, but I’m not sure how it would fit on a grown up....

CherryPavlova · 04/11/2018 07:20

Cruel thing to do to a child for your own amusement. He’ll likely grow up,hating you. What on earth is a rainbow baby? Most are a single colour with patches of deeper pigmentation.
Silly woman.

RoseMartha · 04/11/2018 07:16

I dont like it either and dislike most occupation names but not all, (also not an Amelia or Mia fan), but if you are set on it for a name how about using it as a middle name. It is possible to have more than one middle name, i am not talking about using ten but your baby could have three names before the surname.

OliviaStabler · 04/11/2018 07:14

He'll be fucked if he wants to join the army.

I hope your surname is Way.

😂😂😂

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/11/2018 07:12

I agree that anyone saying anything to anyone about their name is wrong. Making people feel bad about something so personal isn’t nice. But that wouldn’t stop them thinking it or saying something behind their back.

Mn is a good way to canvas opinion about a name whether that feedback goes down well or not. You get honest opinions.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 04/11/2018 07:04

She’s had more than one comment, I worded that badly. But it was always by some old person who had watched too many carry on films and would sit there laughing to themselves while everyone just looked at them like Confused

If people say anything to someone about their name, it’s days more about the person saying it.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/11/2018 07:01

Good for you and your siblings Not, but I think your dsis has been exceptionally lucky to only ever had one comment. I really hope the op has evaluated it for her future child when she becomes pregnant.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 04/11/2018 06:56

Mumsnet is the worst place to post for baby names OP, it’s full of snobs and cunts.

I have a sister called Sailor (and a brother called Hunter!) and she’s never had any problems at all. “Helloooo sailor” has only ever been said by someone over 40 who just thinks they’re hilarious but obviously are just massive twats. All of my siblings have really “out there” names and none of us have ever been picked on, we all have good jobs, none of us are chavs.
We also don’t judge others over something as stupid as a name, which is a good quality to have.
