Whats the Tom Stoppard play with a Thomasina? Shes very good at maths and has a tutor called Septimus. Arcadia! Just came to me.

I love it, an obviously underappreciated classical name.

I like that it can be shortened to Tamsin too

It's not classic like Thomas or Josephine.

I find it frilly and a bit of a mouthful, like Georgiana, and I think of it primarily as a cat's name, I don't hate it though.

Wonderful, elegant, serious, proper name!

Can't think of any likely shortenings that aren't pretty - but will really come into its own as she grows up. Impossible not to become a prize winning novelist, revolutionary orchestra conductor or director of a global institute for doing good with a name like that.

I love it. I consider it a classic, and very stylish.

After reading and re-reading The Tale of Thomasina Tittlemouse to DD2 at least 250 times, I knew it off by heart at one point of my life. I still have a soft spot for The Tale...

I agree with LassWiADelicateAir.
It is considerably nicer by a long way than the Edwardian char lady names like Ivy, Maisie, Ruby, Pearl, Elsie and Daisy which in 2018 list of most popular names.

Tamsin is nice. Arabella is pretty.
Georgia, Georgina, Nigella are all quite feminine sounding.

Henrietta and Thomasina are horrific.
As is Harriet.

One person's char lady is another person's beloved grandmother Wink . Or, these days, great-grandmother. A lot of the Edwardian names coming back are namesake names.

I'm a Tamzin as m parents liked Thomasina but didn't want a 4 syllable name. I've never had anyone say my name is masculine.
Was once told it sounded like a Chinese restaurant

I can definitely comment on this being a Thomasine.

Hated it as a child and was officially known as Tommy or Tom/T to very close friends.

I do however use it for official purposes.

I turn 50 in January and am really growing in to it.

Nigella's sister was called Thomasina. She had another called Horatia. I always wondered if their parents really only wanted sons.

Thomasin Yeobright is in The Return of The Native

Tamsin is a variant. I much prefer Thomasina- Tamsin sounds quite masculine. (Samson)
