My sister was almost a Thomasina.
However my uncle and Auntie had a baby a few months before and named him Thomas.
I don't like it on a personal level, but
Why is it any different to Georgina. I've never heard any negative comments about that.
If you like it go for it. Once people have their name 99.99% of the time they always grow into it. Eg I.didn't like my nephews name at first (Derry)
I love it now though. It really suits him down to a T.

I love it! Thomasina is beautiful, feminine and classic.

It makes such a refreshing change from all the cutesy names like Evie, Ellie, Poppy etc

I really like it, I like Harriet too. In a million years, I would not name my child Daisy, Ellie, Holly, Millie or Tillie.

I think when asking random strangers for their opinions, it is a good idea to ask them what their own children are named (if they want to tell you) or what names they favour so you have some idea of their tastes. If you have opposite tastes, if they then dislike a certain name that you adore, it is more understandable than getting a reply saying ‘it is horrid’ which doesn’t help you.!

It's fine. I had a friend named Thomasina when I was a child, I was kinda jealous of her name!

Also love Nigella, Josephine, Claudia and Alexandra and as PP says, they are all feminine versions of masculine names. It's just that you don't hear Thomasina as often.

It's very feminine and pretty but carries some weight of tradition. Perfect.

Classic and beautiful. There was a girl at my school called Thomasina and she was very beautiful and popular and a lovely person. She was Tommie at school to her friends. So much better than all of the Poppy, Evie, Sophie and other 'ee' ending names.

I don’t like male as female names but I don’t see the issue with names that have masculine and feminine versions.

What you see as a ‘bolt on’ is standard in other languages particularly those with grammatical genders.

As per previous posters, there's something that just sticks in my craw about a girl's name that is just a bloke's name with a feminine bolt-on (á la Nigella, Horatia, Thomasina)
It sort of feeds into the idea (in many, many parts of the world) of a woman just being a sub-standard variant of a man.
There are loads of strong, magnificent names out there that don't fall into the 'male version of' category so for me personally, I would choose something else.

I have one of the alternative names mentioned upthread. I much prefer my name.
I have known two ladies called Thomasina, one shortened it to Tamsy. For my the name is just a bit long and clunky.

I quite like it. Thought immediately of Return of the Native which I love.

If you have a dd, you still like the name I say go for it

Very pretty. I know a Thomasina - she’s very glam.

Be aware that some posters on here are very narrow and conservative. They tend to reject things that sound unfamiliar.
