Emmy or Emmie is nice as a shortening for something else - Emila, Emmeline, Emma, Emily, Emmanuelle. I think putting a longer name on the birth certificate gives her flexibility when she's older - I use mine professionally but friends/family/school knew and know me by the short version.

Elsie I don't dislike but my first thought is Edwardian scullery maid.

I prefer Emmy spelt with a Y. Elsie is boring and overused. The actress who plays Fiona on the US Shameless is named Emmy Rossum.

Elsie ? Why is this name popular?. It makes me think of Elsie Tanner. Sorry but I think it's a really ugly name.

My DD's middle name is Rose (3 months) I actually hate popular names, which is why her first name is a lot more uncommon but Rose is just so beautiful it made me not care.

I would sway towards Emmie BUT I think she may often be asked if it's Emma.

I really dislike both sorry. Emmy is wet and sickly and Elsie is just awful. Elsie Tanner.

No, Emmy/Emmie are both awful.

They’re fine as family pet names (my sister Emily was often called Emmie/Em in the house) but terrible as a full name.

It’s not a name that’s going to serve her well if she wants a professional career.

The issue is ds (5) loves the name rose but both I and dh do not (unfortunately) so to make him feel like he’s played a big part init all we said it could be her middle name

I prefer Rose as a proper first name. Something-Rose is starting to sound quite unimaginative and definitely overdone. Not quite - Mae (May) or Rae naff, but getting there.

Rose is my daughter's surname and it drives me mad as everyone assumes it's her middle name because it's so common at the moment. What about Rose as a first name to be a bit different?

Yeah, Emmie isn't a real name for a grown woman. I would go with Elsie or Emma. You have to give them a shot at having the choice to use a grown up name when they're grown up no matter how cute it is for a baby (and it's very cute.)

Hm. Emmie is too cutesy for an official name. The only one I know - in her mid-20s - is called Emmeline. On that basis, it has to be Elsie - but I don't like it. It's slightly less cute than Emmie but more dreary.

Elsie, definitely. Emmie is a bit of a non-name and she'll have people asking what it's short for all the time. (Emma? Emily? Emmaline? Ermintrude? Emmethal? Emmerdale? etc)

Monkey no not as a nn. And this is dh’s reason why he prefers Elsie Grin I’m abit of the opinion why call them something else on bc if you actually want them to known by something else.. if that makes sense! Plus I’ve not heard anything I like Emmie could be short for?

Will Emmie be a shortening of something, eg Emmeline? Emmie is a bit cutesy/twee in my opinion. Can’t imagine it on a grown woman who hopes to be taken seriously!
