Anneliese vs Anastasia

We’re looking for a long name for Annie.
I don’t like Annabel, as it’s a bit little-girly, and I find both Anne/Anna slightly boring.

We’ve narrowed it down to Anneliese or Anastasia.

I prefer the former, dh the latter, and we’ve reached an impasse. Any opinions?

Anneliese

RedDwarves · 02/11/2018 09:05

Anastasia.

Don't like Anneliese, and I think it would be spelt every which way.

chipsnmayo · 01/11/2018 19:54

I love Anneliese, I wanted it for DD but exP was not having it. I have only met one too who must be about 16.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 01/11/2018 19:29

Do you like Marianne nn Annie?

GlitterGlassEye · 01/11/2018 19:07

I almost called dd2 Annie and that would have been the name on the birth certificate. Why not just use that?

Gillyhicks · 01/11/2018 19:05

Another vote for Anneliese, beautiful name!

AlbertWinestein · 01/11/2018 17:55

Anastasia, pronounced Anna-stay-sia, for me.

NC4Now · 01/11/2018 17:50

I love them both. Anneliese is pretty, Anastasia is a bit more sassy.

I think Anastasia has her head screwed on and is quite smart, but in no way geeky.

Anneliese is also clever, but a bit more of a quieter character.

But whichever you choose will suit your DD because the name will mould to her.

Orchiddingme · 01/11/2018 17:47

I like Anastasia myself.

GoodJanet · 01/11/2018 17:45

We would be pronouncing Anneliese as Anna-lease, so three syllables

Is Anneliese pronounced Ann-eh-lee-se?

Pemba · 01/11/2018 16:57

Yes that is a bit weird, ladybee Grin

Shadow1234 · 01/11/2018 16:53

Anneliese by miles. Such a pretty name.

ladybee28 · 01/11/2018 14:13

It's Anneliese all the way for me , too – names like Anastasia make me think of an open-mouthed sneeze. Too many 's' and 'a' sounds... Totally aware that's a personal weirdness of mine though!

Pemba · 01/11/2018 14:00

Anastasia

RavenWings · 01/11/2018 13:53

Anneliese is lovely.
Anastasia is nice but a bit overly flouncy Disney princess sounding to me.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 01/11/2018 13:36

Prefer Anastasia, but that might be because I'm in Germany and Anneliese is a bit of an old lady name (that has been missed out by old lady chic).

ChanklyBore · 01/11/2018 13:30

Avoid any name with the word anal in it.

Even Annal is pushing it.

My first thoughts were Anneliese from neighbours, Grand Duchess Anastasia of Russia.

Then that awful 50 shades shit.

midsomermurderess · 01/11/2018 13:25

Anneliese for me too. Not very keen on the 'Analeise' spelling suggested above.

Glitterbubbles · 01/11/2018 13:15

Anneliese 100%

ZebraKid71 · 01/11/2018 13:03

Anneliese by a mile. Even with the spelling problems. I really don't like anastasia.

Dd1 is Anneka but generally goes by Annie - it's good to have nn options. 😊

Sophronia · 01/11/2018 13:02

Anneliese is lovely. I also like the spellings Annaliese, Annalise and Annelise.

MemoryOfSleep · 01/11/2018 13:00

Anneleise. Much nicer imo.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 01/11/2018 12:56

I prefer Anneliese, though I'd only known of the "Annalise" spelling before.

daisypond · 01/11/2018 12:41

The way I would pronounce Anneliese is a bit like Anna-Leeza - so the S is more like a Z and the E at the end has a syllable of its own, a sort of "uh" sound.
