Sum - interesting I had always thought it was about a boy - really great song.

SumAndSubstance · 31/10/2018 14:28

The song ‘Luka’ is about a boy anyway. I also think it’s a bit odd if you’re not Italian, I suppose because it is very much the Italian version of a common English name. I do like it though.

daisypond · 31/10/2018 13:47

I do like it but I think it's odd without Italian heritage. I like Luke and Lucas as well. Lucius?

Buenavista · 31/10/2018 11:36

Loads of names that were traditionally another language get used all the time - Elodie, Amelie etc. It’s not that out there, I wouldn’t ask, just assumed you liked it. Like both Luca and Lucas though so I’m no help!

greendale17 · 30/10/2018 21:14

Find using a foreign name a bit random if no family link.

TatianaLarina · 30/10/2018 21:05

I like it. But people will ask him his whole if he has Italian blood.

Luka is a very old song. My kids wouldn’t know who Suzanne Vega was.

mondler · 30/10/2018 18:43

It's nice but I'm another person that just thinks of the song so it has rather sad connotations and I automatically think its a girl. If you love it go for it though.

LeeMiller · 30/10/2018 14:54

I agree it's a bit random without an Italian link. It seems to have suddenly got popular in the UK in the last few years so I also think of it as a bit faddy. Lucas is nice, though I like Luke even better.

ZebraKid71 · 30/10/2018 13:52

Whenever I hear a kid called Luca I just think of that Suzanne Vega song Luka - it's about child abuse and not an association I would be comfortable naming a child with. I really like Lucas though.

DC2018 · 29/10/2018 23:42

I prefer Lucas to Luca. Lucas is great name imo

Sophronia · 29/10/2018 22:54

Lucas is the Spanish version so fits better with your Spanish heritage.

anatol · 29/10/2018 06:31

If you don't have any Italian heritage I'd go for Lucas.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 29/10/2018 02:25

Love Luca

brizzledrizzle · 29/10/2018 02:25

I love it so much that I used it.

BalloonDinosaur · 29/10/2018 02:21

DP loved Luca and really wanted to use it for DS, I liked it too but with no Mediterranean connections felt we couldn't really pull it off.
Almost wish we had though. We went with Lucas instead.

pamplemoussed · 29/10/2018 02:06

It’s a really nice name but would cause me to ask why it’s been chosen. It’s an Italian name so I’d expect there to be some Italian heritage or back story; much like Miguel for a baby with Spanish heritage or Angus for a baby with a Scottish link. Without any national link at all it seems odd to me.

SuperstarDJ · 29/10/2018 01:42

I much prefer Lucas.

auroraboringalice · 28/10/2018 22:18

Luca here, I'm not sure about this name! Grin

Sunshine28 · 28/10/2018 22:09

Really lovely name...

PantTwizzler · 28/10/2018 22:06

I much prefer Luke. Find using a foreign name a bit random if no family link.

SnowyMountains · 28/10/2018 22:05

I know a couple of Luca's born recently, lovely name.

Yeah I also use know a couple of girl Luca's but that was over a decade ago now, seems to have shifted more to a boys name now.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 28/10/2018 20:55

I like it.

Brandnewstart · 28/10/2018 20:51

Lucas puts me off as it rhymes with mucus. Love Luca though!

PrincessTwilightStoleMyToddler · 28/10/2018 20:45

Makes me think of the song “Luka” by Suzanne Vega. I wouldn’t want that association (while it’s good, that song upsets me). I would also, as a result of the song, think of it as a girl’s name (I know that’s not right).

Lucas is nice - I would definitely go for Lucas rather than Luca.

ilovepuppys · 28/10/2018 20:42

No Italian heritage unfortunately... Grandad is Spanish though!
