Artemis? Or similar?

Fantasising about naming a second son (DS is 9mo and I have no interest in another baby yet, but love names!). What’s the MN view on Artemis? Not so keen on Art/Arty, sadly...

Any other similar names I might like, that spring to mind?

Rafael and Gabriel are nice names for a Spanish connection.

Or what about Androcles?

Goostacean · 30/10/2018 11:49

Eh, I don’t like it much for a woman. It’s okay, but not for me, personally.

Apollo won’t work as DH’s family speak Spanish and the “ll” becomes a “y”- Apoyo. Hmm.
Adonis sounds like a challenge to live up to!
Aurelius is too regal, I reckon...

Gosh I’m fussy 😂 Good thing there’s no DC2 in sight! Back to the drawing board...

The only Artemis I know is a woman.

beanaseireann · 29/10/2018 08:31

Elle mc Pherson's son is Aurelius

TatianaLarina · 29/10/2018 08:27

Adonis, like Beau, is a hard name to live up to.

Harveyrabbit76 · 29/10/2018 08:18

I love Atticus for a boy! I know a girl called Artemis and that's why I have discounted it for the boy I am expecting. Apollo is pretty cool but I think Adonis is a name with strong connotations?

TatianaLarina · 29/10/2018 08:14

I was shocked when I found out it was a girls name

How is it actually possible to not know it’s a Greek goddess?

Google is your friend.

Cosmoa · 29/10/2018 07:25

We were considering Aurelius nn Auri for a boy..

Cosmoa · 29/10/2018 07:23

My friend has a boy names Artemis and it's loved by many! Everyone comments on how lovely it is. I was shocked when I found out it was a girls name. Seems masculine to me. Even before it was the name of my friends boy.

Angus
Augusta?

TatianaLarina · 28/10/2018 22:28

Liking Aramis.

If your next baby is female Artemis is great.

Bogger · 28/10/2018 21:30

Arlo, Atticus or Aurelius.

SilverySurfer · 28/10/2018 15:43

I wouldn't because a) it's a female name and b) if shortened to Art or Arty, he is likely to be called Farty Arty at school. (As a poor kid called Art in my school was called)

RickOShay · 28/10/2018 14:27

Love Aramis.

MikeUniformMike · 28/10/2018 13:01

How about Adonis?

Stringofpearls · 28/10/2018 11:58

I used to know the loveliest Greek lady named Artemis, it's a beautiful name but not really for a boy.

TatianaLarina · 28/10/2018 10:16

Artemus/mas meant follower of Artemis though - a distinction that would have been understood at the time but not now - it’s not simply variant spelling.

Artemis was not just goddess of hunting - also childbirth, fertility, virginity, animals etc..

Eleanor90 · 28/10/2018 08:01

Artemas or Artemus are used for males. I especially like the former, and I actually quite like Artemis for a boy too. I don’t see the issue with it being a goddess; plenty of girls get boys’ names now after all.

Fevertree · 28/10/2018 05:26

But yes Artemis is for a girl

Fevertree · 28/10/2018 05:25

Came to say apollo and atlas. All three are on my list for dc2 due today!

RedDwarves · 28/10/2018 05:06

Artemis is definitely feminine.

Some alternatives:
Aldous
Alastair
Amos

Goostacean · 28/10/2018 01:23

Aw. Well, it was a nice idea while it lasted! 😂

Artemisius/ Artemisios is a male name. I really like it. Don't call a boy Artemis, it's like calling him Diana.

Slappinthebass · 28/10/2018 00:31

I know a couple of young Artemis's, one of them a boy which has always really irked me, had no idea about Artemis Fowl being a boy. I like Atticus.

cheesemongery · 28/10/2018 00:31

Andy?
