I'm Scottish but we went for the Isabel spelling as I can't see past the "sob" in Isobel. We also use a diminuitive of her name which is neither Izzy nor Bella so you wouldn't have to use them.

golondrina · 30/10/2018 08:30

@Dlux apparently the SIL is Spanish herself which makes it all the weirder. Cos Isobel is not used as a spelling in Spain. Maybe it's like Spanish people using Jonathon "Jonatan" and Sheila "Shayla"?

Dlux · 30/10/2018 08:25

@schooltripwoes so she is in Tarragona? She is mistaken is she thinks Isobel is a Spanish spelling, does she speak to Spanish people? It is odd she would think this

schooltripwoes · 30/10/2018 08:00

@golondrina - she's just outside Reus

plus3 · 29/10/2018 23:11

Isobel... dd's middle name

MargotLovedTom1 · 29/10/2018 23:08

Isobel. When I see Isabel I come over all Manuel-like and find myself muttering "Eeeessabelll" in a sing-song voice Blush.

Mumtobe193 · 29/10/2018 23:06

Plus with Isabelle you have the option of Belle as a NN aswell as Issy or Izzy

Mumtobe193 · 29/10/2018 23:03

I personally prefer Isabelle. But if I had to choose between your two suggestions I would go with Isabel over Isobel. I think it looks prettier with the A for some reason?

PenelopeFlintstone · 29/10/2018 21:00

I like Isabel or Isabelle. The O looks funny to me.

Flamingosnbears · 29/10/2018 16:54

Isobel - Looovely

Pemba · 29/10/2018 14:23

They are both lovely. Isabel is the 'original' Spanish spelling, AFAIK. Isabelle I find too frilly (unless you are French) in a similar way to Annabelle (prefer Annabel).

Justtheoneplease · 29/10/2018 13:45

Isabelle as it's beautiful just like my gorgeous daughter. She's an Issy not Izzy btw 😉😉😀

JellyTeapot · 29/10/2018 13:42

Isobel (I have one ❤️)

starkid · 29/10/2018 12:51

Isobel! :)

golondrina · 29/10/2018 08:33

I've never ever heard of a Spanish Isobel. Maybe she just liked that spelling, but it's absolutely not how anyone would spell it in Spain. And if you google "Isobel nombre de niña" you just get loads of references to it being the Scottish spelling of Isabel. Where does your SIL live? I'm really intrigued a Spaniard living in Spain would use that spelling and say it's normal.
Not being arsey or anything, just intrigued.

adviceonthepox · 29/10/2018 06:23

Isabelle is the prettiest spelling the others don't look quite right to me.

schooltripwoes · 29/10/2018 06:06

Apologies- I was misinformed . SIL who is Spanish (and lives in Spain) has an Isobel and said that that's the normal spelling and would never see it any other way where they live. Maybe it's a regional thing ?

SuperstarDJ · 28/10/2018 19:47

Regardless of origin, I prefer Isobel.

pipilangstrumpf · 28/10/2018 19:21

Isabelle is pronounced differently than Isabel, the emphasis is on the belle.

I've never heard the pronunciation Isobel. I prefer Isabel.

Alltheseposes · 28/10/2018 00:25

Isobel. Such a beautiful name.

Cheeseandapple · 28/10/2018 00:21

Isobel

Chickenwings85 · 27/10/2018 23:59

I have an Isabelle. I chose to have it spelt that way because for me personally I feel like it's the traditional way of spelling it, whether that's correct or not I dont know..? But I just love the name and the spelling.

Shadow1234 · 27/10/2018 23:36

Isobel

MaisyPops · 27/10/2018 21:41
