I’ve loved this name for ages and has been at the top of my name list ( I was weird and had a baby names list before I was even ttc) for years but have noticed it being mentioned a lot around here so is it faddy all of a sudden? Also what are your general opinions on the name?

LOVE it

Joanne721 · 28/10/2018 15:04

I like the name Margot

IamEarthymama · 28/10/2018 14:53

I absolutely love it, but I am biased! One of my favourite little girls is Margot and it suits to a T!

MadisonAvenue · 28/10/2018 14:48

Don’t like it at all, it sounds really harsh.

starzig · 28/10/2018 14:45

Margot Robbie has made it popular

3out · 28/10/2018 14:43

It’s maybe grown in popularity because of The Durrells?

AtticaRose · 28/10/2018 14:33

I really like it - feminine and strong, not frilly, well+known but not overdone.

I have a cousin Margot though so wouldn't use! (She's 30)

katseyes7 · 28/10/2018 14:31

lt makes me think of Margo on The Good Life....

Sunflower321 · 28/10/2018 14:27

The t is also pronounced in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and in Austria.

RickOShay · 28/10/2018 14:25

I really like Margot.

Sunflower321 · 28/10/2018 13:58

I knew a Dutch lady who was called Margot, but she pronounced the T

It's pronounced Mar-gott in Germany too!

IzzyGrey · 28/10/2018 11:57

Adore it! Classy, beautiful, vintage.

DramaAlpaca · 27/10/2018 20:20

It's not for me, I don't like the look or the sound of it at all. I can't fathom why it's become so popular.

3out · 27/10/2018 19:41

I knew a Dutch lady who was called Margot, but she pronounced the T. No idea if all Dutch people do this or if it was just her family
It always makes me think of The Good Life :)

Notquiteagandt · 27/10/2018 19:38

My little girl due in the new year is going to be a margot.

And everyone saying it reminds them of maggot. I actually think maggots a cute nickname.

Enidblyton1 · 27/10/2018 19:38

It’s extremely popular in Fulham at the moment - every other child seems to be called Margot. I love the name!

purple8pig · 27/10/2018 19:32

I love it! I think it's really pretty, quirky and feminine but not too girly and flowery. I really like it! Xx

daisypond · 27/10/2018 19:31

I really like it. I know two young Margots - one a baby, the other a toddler. I would think it was the character in Despicable Me that brought it back into public consciousness a while back.

raviolidreaming · 27/10/2018 16:59

It's one of the names I only ever see on MN and never meet any in real life

Same here. Although I do know a Margot in her 50s.

NarcolepticOuchMouse · 27/10/2018 15:17

I like the sound but not the spelling. Is it terrible blasphemy to suggest you spell it Margo?

L0lacabana · 27/10/2018 14:46

sessy19 do you mind me asking where you are? I’m not after original and unique just not after her being Margot F in school

OP posts:
Sessy19 · 27/10/2018 14:43

It’s seriously popular here, and ironically the last three girls born I’ve known have been called Margot...and their mothers have wanted ‘original and unique’.

Is it popularised because of the actress Margot Robbie? 10yrs ago, I’m pretty sure no one here would have MN ‘Approved’ the name 😂

ThunderInMyHeart · 27/10/2018 14:28

Love it! On my list

Margot Tenenbaum...

Shadow1234 · 27/10/2018 14:17

Not too keen. Sounds harsh to me.

deptfordgirl · 27/10/2018 12:24

I don't love it. And it seems to be everywhere at the moment.
